Bachelor's Degree in Informatics Engineering with advanced semester Directions: Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering. Department of Informatics Engineering. School of Engineering. Technological Educational Institute of Crete.

Description

The Computer Engineering Department of Crete T.E.I. covers the field of Information Technology, Telecommunications, and Multimedia, which are of critical importance for the evolving Society of Information. Through the education provided, the Department aims to graduates who shall have a spherical education about new technologies, along with the required specialization in order to directly cover the needs of an extensive and dynamically growing labour market. This market includes businesses and companies of applications and products of Information Technology, software, internet providers, telephony providers, etc.
Network Engineers: The direction of Network Engineers of the Department of Computer Engineering in Crete T.E.I. is focused on the study, analysis, design, synthesis, and implementation of networks, multimedia services and applications, deepening in the implementation architectures and technologies of a) telecommunication systems and convergence service platforms, b) creation, operation, and transmission of multimedia through heterogeneous infrastructures, and c) programming and network administration for the provision of guaranteed quality of service (QoS). Students can obtain theoretical knowledge and technical training in the aforementioned fields, develop skills of oral and written communication, as well as of team working, through a series of lectures and laboratory exercises, which are implemented either in actual conditions or within a controlled environment (e.g. simulations). Specifically, students can acquire current knowhow about the following subject areas: Telecommunication systems and Internet platforms; Pervasive networks and service infrastructures, Network management and control; Multimedia and Interactive applications; Internet Applications and Quality of Service. This direction provides the necessary width and depth of knowledge, in order for graduates to be able to work either as engineers in the productive field and in the industry (for the design, implementation of originals, the construction, integration, maintenance and evaluation of network performances), or participate in postgraduate programmes of studies.
Computer Engineers: Computer Engineering is an academic field combining the Science of Computers with Electrical / Electronic Engineering. The core knowledge integrate science and technology for the design, manufacture, implementation, control and maintenance of software and hardware for modern computer systems and devices.
The computer systems are critical components in automated transmission systems, in control systems, in electronic devices of wide consumption and of entertainment, in fields of defence, health, and modern industrial structures. Currently, the wide convergence of numerous technologies that are now dominant (such as TV and networking technologies, which are now integrated with modern integrated devices) have resulted to developments and innovative technologies, creating new challenges and opportunities for Computer Engineers.
The programme of the direction of Computer Engineers of Crete T.E.I. aims to the development of competences for the resolution of problems related to algorithms, concepts for the design of architecture and technologies, with the analysis and synthesis methods, as well as to the development of communication and creative collaboration skills through a variety of experience from laboratories and presentations. Specifically, students are specialized in the following segments:
Computer architecture and integrated system design; Image processing, mechanical vision and intelligent systems; Computer graphics and game development; Communication and control Systems. The programme aims to provide graduates with the necessary width and depth of knowledge to work as engineers in the industry (offering the necessary abilities for progressing to the design, implementation and control of original) or continue with postgraduate studies in relevant fields for specialization.
Software Engineers: In the department of "Computer Engineering", the direction of Software Engineers includes courses (core and elective) aiming to the training of students in the subject of Software Systems engineering. The main objective of the direction curriculum is to educate, introduce and specialize students in various subjects related to the life cycle of Software Systems. Students following this direction are trained in modern methodologies and techniques for analysis, development, installation, maintenance, and evaluation of Software Systems (of different type and purpose). Emphasis is put on the development of competences for the application thereof in actual problems. Another significant objective of this direction curriculum is to allow graduates to obtain a high level of professionalism and responsibility, which are qualifications necessary for working in the scientific field of Software Engineering. Due to the variety of software requirements, the curriculum has been carefully designed, providing students with the necessary assets in a wide range of methodological approaches for the development of software, in order for them to be capable to integrate the numerous and diversified software development environments in their professional life.
