Description

The learner is expected to acquire high-level knowledge on cutting-edge subjects related to modern energy technologies and scientific approaches for the production and management of energy using renewable sources, as well as to subjects about the protection of the environment and saving energy. As a Postgraduate Studies Programme it also aims to the promotion of scientific knowledge through the promotion of research in relevant fields. Specifically, the graduates of the programme shall have a strong scientific background, skills and knowhow about the fields of renewable energy technologies, about the composition and interconnection of modern energy technologies, and generally about the systems of electrical power.

Further Information

The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Studies Programme of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Natural Resources and the Environment awards a Master's Degree on "Energy Systems". This is a single title, granted in common by the collaborating Departments.
The purpose of the programme is the specialisation of electrical, mechanical and other relevant engineers in the field of the modern energy systems, in order to become capable executives for the energy-related organisations (private and public), which shall introduce the necessary innovation in every field of the productive procedure. The Interdepartmental Master's Degree in moves towards the direction of the main development priorities of the country, such as the energy and the sustainable development, while coping with the basic needs of society and providing a field for a high level of research activities. The graduates shall also be sufficiently prepared in order to continue to doctoral studies.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
