The graduates of the Postgraduate Programme are expected to: A. Knowledge: be able to understand and critically negotiate (i) modern theories and research related to the field of Education Sciences as a theoretical and interpretative framework for approaching the educational practice, and (ii) the procedures for introducing and managing innovations in formal and non-formal education; to this end, it is expected that they will acquired advanced knowledge in the field of work of the educator, which lead to a critical understanding of theories and principles, and help them delve into, expand and increase their prior knowledge.
B. Skills: be able to located and apply effective procedures for the importing, management, and evaluation of innovations in education; specifically, being able to analyse the knowledge acquired, apply them to various contexts of the educational procedure, while resolving composite or new problems of their scientific field of studies, by developing integrated, creative, or innovative solutions and approaches; at the same time, they are able to support the solutions and their views with a methodical and scientific way, using specialized sources at a theoretical and practical level. They will be able to discuss issues based on scientific documentation within the context of their cognitive and professional field, while formulating valid opinions, which shall take into consideration the various relevant social, financial, cultural, and moral aspects of the issues. In addition, they shall be able to communicate with specialized and non-specialised groups and with the public, in order to convey orally, in writing, or by using other means, information, ideas, problems, and solutions in specific issues of the educational procedure.
C. Competences: be able to investigate the educational work through differentiated procedures for the collection and analysis of data (recording, encoding and interpretation), reflect and formulate their opinion based on the modern trends of pedagogics, didactics, and the psychological theory, and also the specific characteristics of the social and educational context. In addition, communicate and collaborate with other members of the educational community for the preparation of research works and studies. Moreover, they apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired with autonomy, professionalism and social responsibility, while being able to take decisions, evaluating them, and undertaking their responsibilities in composite, ever-changing and developing professional contexts. Finally, they shall be able to undertake on their own, within specific frameworks, the responsibility for the development of knowledge, skills, and competences in groups and individuals.

Interdepartmental Postgraduate Studies Programme of the Early Childhood Education Department and of the Primary Education Department of the Faculty of Education of Florina of the University of West Macedonia. This is a single title, granted in common by the departments.
The subject of the PSP titled "Sciences of Education: Professional Learning and Innovations in Education" is the postgraduate specialisation on issues of the training and education sciences, focused on issues related to professional learning and the introduction and management of innovations in education.
The purpose of the postgraduate programme is to reinforce the professional learning of educators and of anyone engaged with education by correlating the educational theory, the educational research and the teaching practice.
Specifically, the PSP aims to the following:
a) delve into and specialize in the critical issues of the sciences of education, through mainly interdisciplinary research approaches, b) acquisition of knowledge and skills about the design and implementation of educational research, as a necessary condition for furthering studies at a doctorate level, and c) further training and generally the professional support to serving educators and education executives.
The graduates may find employment in various professional and research fields connected to school, along with out-of-school areas of education and socialization. Along with its research mission, the Postgraduate Studies Programme (PSP) aims to the training of senior executives for education, specialists for the development of teaching programmes, for the design of the educational policy and for consulting and managerial duties in education.

Relation To Employment

The title of studies provides the Certificate of Pedagogical and Didactic Proficiency.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
