The basic objective of the Department is the creation of professional executives of high scientific level, as per the international scientific and professional standards. The graduates shall be high quality human resources for businesses and organisations, since they will cover the required background for theoretical knowledge and skills, while having the basic practical experience in order to effectively deal with the scientific and professional responsibilities arising in the current business environment.
The learning objectives of the Department offer students the theoretical background of knowledge for Business Administration in order to be able to understand the problems arising in their professional life and practically apply modern scientific and technological methods, depending on the type and environment of the business. Special attention is paid to applied quantitative methodologies created by modern management tools and to the rational taking of business decisions. The above are specified and specialized through the development of the modern curriculum, which after the second year offers the structure of three directions: Management, Marketing, and IT Systems Management.
• The Management direction refers to the context of the knowledge of the modern Management Science, where the development of the methods for designing, organizing, guiding, controlling the procedures and financially managing resources are specified, with the purpose of achieving developmental objectives for a business or organization. To this end, it contributes to the creation of a scientific background and of technical knowledge capable of establishing concepts for the more effective, efficient, and qualitative operation of businesses and organisations in the modern business environment.
• The Marketing direction, where the modern concepts and perceptions of the market are developed with regard to issues of demand, production, cost, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. This section includes all theoretical perceptions that have been developed with regard to the modern - globalized framework of markets, the financial management, and the accounting techniques.
• The direction of Information Administration Systems refers to the development and utilization of new information and telecommunication technologies, and to the integration with new business concepts and data. This entails studying the approaches, based on which these systems tend to become an integrated platform for the effective support, management, and development of a modern business environment.
Specifically, the operations that can be effectively performed by a graduate of the Department of Business Administration fall within the context of Taking Business Decisions, using modern quantitative methodologies and integrated IT systems, and include, among others, the following:
1. Statistical and econometric data analysis.
2. Issues of operational research and fine-tuning of systems - procedures.
3. Costing, budgeting, financial analyses, portfolio management.
4. Management - Marketing and sales promotion.
5. Forecasts of business and financial figures.
6. Quality assurance and procedure certification.
7. Rational management of works and operations.
8. Supply Chain Management.
9. Production management.
10. Searching and mining of business data.
11. Assessment of data and transformation thereof into useful information in order to assist in the taking of reasonable business decisions.
12. Design and Development of IT systems.
13. Development of e-commerce applications.
14. Taking of business decisions and development of comprehensive business plans with inflows from all the above knowledge and skills.

This entails studying the approaches, based on which these systems tend to become an integrated platform for the effective support, management, and documented decision taking in the modern business environment.

The above are achieved by taking into consideration the following as well:
• The allocation of teaching classes and laboratories with sufficient equipment, computers, and software.
• The innovative learning practices, such as e-learning, through the e-class platform and from the website of the Department), the extensive use of actual case studies, the undertaking of presentations - works by students, the invitation of business executives and academics from outside of the Department for lectures.
• The connection with the labour market, through the institution of Practical Training for Students, by inviting business executives for lectures, and also by inviting Department graduates who have either acquired labour experience (as autonomous entrepreneurs or executives), or have furthered their studies in postgraduate level.
• The collaborations and educational exchanges with international educational and research institutions, through Erasmus, Erasmus+ and Erasmus Mundus programmes, through which students may study for six months in a foreign country (usually, but not exclusively, in the European Union) or conduct their practical training or dissertation.
• The availability of two institutionally established laboratories of research and development for technology, with priority in the interconnection of the Department with the labour market.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
