Bachelor Degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas and Mechanical Engineering of Technological Education. Directions: 1. Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineers of Technological Education 2. Mechanical Engineers of Technological Education. Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and Mechanical Engineering of Technological Education. Faculty of Technological Applications. Technological Educational Institute of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace.

Description

According to Article 5, Presidential Degree 87, Official Gazette 129/5.6.2013, vol. A, the Department of Engineering and the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Technology have been merged into the T.E. Department of Oil and Gas Technology and T.E. Mechanical Engineering with the following two (2) separate entrance directions and number of places: A) T.E. Mechanical Engineering B) T.E. Oil and Gas Technology.
Direction of T.E. Oil and Gas Technology:

The "science" of oil includes a wide variety of disciplines for the following reasons: oil, following processes of thousands of years, was created by nature and stored underground. Identification, consequently, of underground deposits is the first stage. It is followed by research of the deposit data using physicochemical processes. Drilling follows, to fully confirm the deposit, and then transfer of the oil to the surface of the earth. The range of these activities is known by the term upstream.
They are followed by storage, transport, processing (refining), analyses, sales of oil and its products. These activities are termed downstream. In large countries, upstream is a different subject area of studies from downstream. The curriculum of the direction of Oil and Gas Technology includes both upstream and downstream. This was deemed necessary because our country’s market is small and because oil production (upstream) is currently on a small scale. The Department’s program of studies is a global originality since few university departments worldwide have a similar curriculum.
Consequently the trainee student has knowledge and skills across the spectrum of oil. Numerous laboratory exercises during studies familiarize students as much as possible with actual data. To date, most of the Department graduates work in downstream. Since the future of oil production can be characterized as auspicious in our country (Greece has oil, as shown by recent surveys), students are encouraged today to give weight to the upstream. There is also a number of Department graduates who work abroad in major oil producing companies. Further deepening in the area of upstream is performed through the graduate program of the Department, which is conducted in English, the language of oil, and only refers to the upstream.
Direction of T.E. Mechanical Engineering:
The knowledge offered and skills developed aim at a graduate / mechanical engineer who:
Applies modern scientific and technological methods in the preparation of engineering studies relating to installations in buildings and supervises their implementation.
Designs, develops, maintains and supervises the operation of mechanical installations
and industrial production systems.
Studies and applies safety rules in engineering installations.
Applies modern management methods in business, project or organizations’ administration.

Develops collective and teamwork skills in complex technical and financial issues of his/her specialty.
Is involved in applied research, development and innovation in all areas of expertise.

Further Information

The Department is the only department in Higher Education in Greece in this specific direction of study. It includes two (2) introductory directions: the direction of "Oil and Gas Technology" and the direction "Mechanical Engineering". These introductory directions are the result of reforms of the Ministry of Education in the summer of 2013, with the parallel operation of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Technology and the Department of Engineering of the Technological Educational Institute. The revised curriculum of the Department includes common courses and courses of both (2) directions. The subject of the direction of Oil and Gas Technology is especial, because it provides insight into the whole range of hydrocarbons, from the exploration, extraction, transportation, processing, storing up to their final use. In social and productive terms, the necessary range of scientific areas covered by the activities of a Mechanical Engineer in constantly evolving technology areas (energy, environment, design / product manufacturing, control systems development, production organization, etc.) is an essential aim and motive of the Department.

Relation To Employment

The Bachelor of T.E. Oil and Gas Technology and T.E. Mechanical Engineering with directions T.E. Oil and Gas Technology Engineers or T.E. Mechanical Engineers is necessary for the exercise of the profession of T.E. Oil and Gas Technology Engineer and T.E. Mechanical Engineer.
