Description

Knowledge:
- Operating Principles of Automatic Control Systems and application of these principles into practical systems of each technology such as: electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, chemical, biological, etc.
- Knowledge of the structure and function of various systems (electrical, electronic, computer, hydraulic and pneumatic, electrical machines) with emphasis on automatic control and expertise in robotic systems, CNC machine tools, industrial networks of information collection and processing, intelligent control, etc.
- In depth education in PCs and software with emphasis on industrial information technology.

Skills:
- Application of scientific and technological methods of analysis, design, development, construction, operation and maintenance of automation systems in electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, etc.
- Study and design of automatic control applications on construction sites, farms, industries and each production facility.
- Use, programming, maintenance, adjustment and adaptation of computers, microcomputers, programmable logic controllers and, in general, of equipment that implements automated control algorithms.
- Study, design and installation of industrial data collection and processing networks, aimed to the automatic control of industrial production processes.
- Study, design and installation of office automation based on PCs, PC networks and computer software.
- Supervision and measurement of automatic control implementation projects in each production facility.
- Operations on quality control, quality certification and suitability in automatic control applications.
- Assessments and expert reports on system installations from the above.

Capacities:
On account of (or mandated by) services of the public and broader public sector or private construction company or an individual, either as individual supervising Engineers or as members of groups, they carry out:
- Assume works and expertise projects on automation issues.
- Draft audit reports in cases related with automation systems.
- Evaluate purchase tenders, perform quality control of materials and evaluate projects, tasks, equipment and automation products.
- Study performance, study supervision, research performance, construction, supervision of automation works and tasks, supervision of operation and maintenance of automation systems.
- Design, study supervision, installation, construction, construction supervision, supervision of operation and maintenance of lifts, lifting equipment, pneumatic installations and transport devices.
- Undertake technical support of automation and automation works in industry, in production, in facilities and in structures.
- Study performance, study supervision, analysis, design, development, construction, supervision of automation works and tasks, and supervision of automation systems operating in industry, production, transport and use of electric energy, in electric transportation, as well as in automation facilities and facilities of control of production and distribution of electricity, concerning cases of electronic information systems’ automation in wind machines, PV modules, telecommunication, data transmission and reception systems.
- Analysis, programming and technical support for automation projects and automation works of electrical, electronic, computer, recording, thermo-hydraulic and pneumatic systems and installations.
- Design, study supervision, undertaking and management of large and complex automation projects and operations in industry and production.
- Design, analysis, development, construction, supervision of automation works and tasks.
- Maintenance, operation, supervision of operation, technical support, marketing of automation systems provided for production, transport and use of electricity to electric transport means as well as to facilities of electricity use and generation, related to the operation of electric stations, electronic information systems, wind turbines, photovoltaic systems, telecommunication systems and data reception and transmission systems.

Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of his/her studies, the graduate of the Department has the necessary scientific and technical knowledge and practical skills to apply that knowledge in automation systems in industrial production, agricultural production, robotics systems, and services.

The aim of the course is to train high-quality personnel who, through their theoretical and applied scientific training in the subject of Automatic Control Systems and their expertise in robotic systems, CNC machine tools, industrial collection networks and information processing, intelligent control, etc., constitute the link between knowledge and application and transfer, use and promote modern technology, as well as methods, practices and techniques in the above business fields. For this purpose, the development of an appropriate theoretical background of studies is combined with high level laboratory and practical exercise, while technological mainly research takes place in the subject of Automatic Control and expertise and innovations are developed in their respective professional fields.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
