Description

The Integrated Master's Degree in Architecture is offered by the Department of Architectural Engineering of the School of Engineering of the University of Ioannina. The programme provides comprehensive scientific education in architectural composition and design, the design of buildings and complexes, urban environment design, architectural history and theory, building technology, the restoration and adaptive reuse of historic buildings, and bioclimatic and environmental design. Students acquire theoretical knowledge, laboratory experience and practical skills for the design and resolution of complex architectural and spatial issues.

Relation to Employment

The programme prepares Architecture Engineers for employment in architectural design, the study and supervision of construction projects, urban planning, the restoration and adaptive reuse of historic buildings, urban space design, research and education. The diploma provides full professional rights as an Architecture Engineer in Greece and the EU countries.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission is carried out through the Panhellenic Examinations or transfer examinations, in accordance with the applicable legislation. To obtain the degree, students are required to successfully complete ten semesters of study and accumulate 300 ECTS credits. The programme leads to a single and undivided degree (Integrated Master).

Knowledge

Graduates of the Department, upon completion of the programme, are expected to:
•Possess comprehensive knowledge of architectural design, architectural history and theory, and related arts and sciences.
•Understand the principles of urban planning and the integration of architectural works into the built and natural environment.
•Have knowledge of structural design, building technology, materials and construction techniques.
•Understand the social, cultural and environmental dimensions of architectural design.
•Know methods for documenting and preparing architectural studies.

Skills

Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to:
•Design architectural creations that meet aesthetic and technical requirements.
•Organise activities and spaces at scales ranging from urban space and buildings to everyday objects.
•Apply knowledge of building technology and construction in architectural design.
•Use contemporary methods for the representation, documentation and presentation of architectural works.
•Develop proposals for the functional, aesthetic and environmentally sensitive development of the built environment.
