Description

The Integrated Master's Degree in Architecture is awarded by the Department of Architecture of the School of Engineering of the University of Thessaly and corresponds to five years of study. The qualification certifies comprehensive scientific and technical education in the field of architecture and architectural practice.
The scientific background of the qualification includes architectural design, urban and spatial planning, history and theory of architecture and art, visual arts and digital representations, and architectural technology. The programme also incorporates knowledge related to new technologies, virtual reality, environmental protection, the reuse of existing spaces and bioclimatic building design.
Completion of the studies corresponds to 300 ECTS credits, of which 270 ECTS credits are obtained through courses and 30 ECTS credits through the diploma thesis.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission is through the national entrance examinations or qualifying (transfer) examinations, in accordance with the applicable legislation. The award of the degree requires the successful completion of ten semesters of study and the accumulation of 300 ECTS credits. The program leads to the award of an Integrated Master's Degree.

Knowledge

Graduates acquire a comprehensive scientific and technical background in architecture, with knowledge of architectural design, urban and spatial planning, the history and theory of architecture and art, visual arts and digital representations, and architectural technology.
They also acquire knowledge of construction and structural systems, materials, the energy and bioclimatic performance of buildings, environmental protection, the reuse of existing buildings and spaces, and the use of contemporary digital technologies and representation tools.

Skills

Graduates develop skills in architectural design and composition, spatial analysis and the development of architectural proposals at different scales. They are able to use analogue and digital media for the visualisation, documentation and presentation of architectural ideas and proposals.
They also develop skills in applying architectural technology knowledge, selecting and using materials and construction solutions, and incorporating environmental and energy considerations into design.

Competences

Graduates are able to combine scientific, technical, artistic and socio-cultural knowledge in order to develop integrated architectural proposals. They can address complex design issues, assess the impact of architectural choices on the natural and built environment, and take into account the needs of users and society.
They are also able to use contemporary technologies, collaborate within interdisciplinary approaches, and present and document their proposals using scientific and professional methods. According to the official Study Guide, the aim of the Programme is to develop technically trained architects equipped with social and cultural sensitivity.
