Description

The Integrated Master's Degree in Biotechnology is offered by the Department of Biotechnology of the School of Applied Biology and Biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens. The programme provides an integrated biological and technological background and educates scientists in contemporary fields of Biotechnology. The scientific field includes Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Genetic Engineering, Functional Genomics, Synthetic Biology, Cell Engineering, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology, Nanobiotechnology, Biosensors, Environmental Biotechnology, Biomedical Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. The programme also provides foundational knowledge in Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, Informatics, Physics and Agricultural Sciences, supporting the understanding and application of biotechnology.

Graduates may work in the public and private sectors, research, development and quality-control laboratories, companies producing bioproducts, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, hospitals, diagnostic and microbiological laboratories, and companies involved in life-science products. Additional areas include the development of methods and products for biological agriculture, production and improvement of propagation material, genetic analysis, diagnostic methods, environmental management.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission to the program requires a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (High School Diploma) and successful participation in national-level examinations.

Knowledge

• Possess fundamental and applied knowledge in biosciences, geosciences and related natural sciences essential to Biotechnology.
• Understand biochemical and developmental processes at cellular and organism level and adopt a holistic approach to biological systems.
• Possess knowledge of modern applications in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics and biotechnology.

• Evaluate, design and select biotechnological methodologies, applying modern technological approaches to biological systems and data.
• Search, analyse, synthesise and present biological problems, data and applications in written and oral form.
