Description
The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University was founded in 2004 to provide comprehensive university education in the field of Audiovisual Arts. It is an interdisciplinary department where art converges with technology, combining theoretical education, artistic creation, scientific research and technological innovation. The five-year Undergraduate Study Programme (300 ECTS) leads to the award of an Integrated Master's Degree in Audio and Visual Arts. The programme focuses on the creation, processing and application of sound, image and audiovisual media in art, communication, education and digital culture.
Relation to Employment
Graduates may pursue careers in artistic creation using sound, image and new media, digital art, video art, animation, photography, digital audio and image technologies, virtual reality technologies, multimedia and web applications, graphic design, advertising, cultural organizations, educational technology and audiovisual communication.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission is based on the Panhellenic Examinations or placement exams in accordance with current legislation. To be awarded the degree, students must successfully
complete ten semesters of study and earn 300 credit units (ECTS). The program leads to a single, uninterrupted degree (Integrated Master’s).
Knowledge
Graduates possess comprehensive knowledge of audiovisual arts, art theory and aesthetics, the creative convergence of art and technology, digital image and sound, multimedia and new media technologies, photography, video, animation, interactive applications, virtual and augmented reality technologies, image and sound processing, creative coding, artistic research and the application of contemporary audiovisual technologies in art, communication and culture. They understand the interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary nature of the field, combining theoretical knowledge with artistic and technological expertise.
Skills
Graduates are able to develop original artistic works, compose and process image and sound, creatively use contemporary digital technologies and software, design and implement multimedia and interactive systems, create animation, video art and installation works, organize and present artistic productions, conduct artistic and scientific research, collaborate in interdisciplinary teams and apply their knowledge in professional and research environments of audiovisual arts.
Competences
Graduates are competent to work as professionals or independent artists in the creative and applied field of audiovisual arts. They are capable of managing complex artistic and technological projects, creatively integrating art with technology, designing and implementing innovative applications, responding to the needs of the cultural and creative industries, conducting artistic research and demonstrating creativity, critical thinking, professional responsibility and artistic autonomy.
