Description
The Integrated Master's Degree of the Department of Agriculture, Crop Production and Rural Environment provides comprehensive university-level education in Agricultural Sciences, with particular emphasis on crop production, management of the rural environment and sustainable management of natural resources. The programme has a five-year duration and requires at least 300 ECTS credits.
The programme includes fundamental sciences, such as Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry, Physics and Agrometeorology, Biology, Ecology and Biodiversity, Biochemistry and Biotechnology–Molecular Biology, as well as agricultural science subjects including crop production, soil science, plant protection, plant physiology, plant breeding, irrigation, agricultural engineering, agricultural constructions, agricultural economics and farm management.
Relation to Employment
The Integrated Master's Degree prepares graduates for activities in the agricultural sector, including the production and management of plant products, the preparation of studies and the provision of services in agriculture and the environment. The Programme also supports the role of the agriculturist as a consultant and researcher in modern agriculture.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission to the Programme requires a Unified High School Diploma and a high score in the National Higher Education Entrance Examinations. Following completion of the qualification, graduates may continue to postgraduate studies in Greece or abroad.
Knowledge
The graduate possesses scientific knowledge in Agricultural Sciences, particularly in crop production and the rural environment. This includes knowledge related to the qualitative and quantitative improvement of crop production, the development and production of improved propagation material, modern cultivation practices, plant nutrition, mechanisation, plant protection, natural resource management and environmental protection.
Skills
The graduate is able to apply and utilise scientific knowledge and expertise for the improvement of crop production and the implementation of integrated and sustainable practices. The graduate can use modern agricultural technologies, support the implementation of good agricultural practices, contribute to reducing energy and agrochemical inputs, promote rational management of natural resources and support the safe production and quality certification of plant products.
Competences
The graduate is able to make decisions, search for, analyse and synthesise data and information using the necessary technologies, work independently and in teams, and design and manage projects. The graduate can also generate new research ideas, develop creative and inductive thinking, and communicate agricultural science to relevant stakeholders.
