Description
The Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmacy is offered by the Department of Pharmacy of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Patras. The programme provides comprehensive scientific education in pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical technology, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical care. Students acquire theoretical knowledge, laboratory experience and practical skills for the scientific study, development, preparation, evaluation and rational use of medicines.
Relation to Employment
The programme prepares pharmacists for employment in community and hospital pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, pharmaceutical product testing and analysis laboratories, regulatory agencies, research and education. It also provides opportunities for continuation of studies at postgraduate and doctoral level.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission is carried out through the Panhellenic Examinations or transfer examinations, in accordance with the applicable legislation. To obtain the degree, students are required to successfully complete ten semesters of study and accumulate 300 ECTS credits. The programme leads to a single and undivided degree (Integrated Master).
Knowledge
Graduates of the Department, upon completion of the programme, are expected to:
•Possess comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental and applied fields of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology.
•Understand the principles of medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical technology.
•Have knowledge of the development, manufacture, analysis, quality control and safe use of pharmaceutical products.
•Understand the biological and physicochemical processes affecting the action, absorption, metabolism and elimination of medicines.
•Understand the principles of pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical care and public health.
Skills
Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to:
•Apply scientific and laboratory methods for the analysis and quality control of pharmaceutical products.
•Use modern techniques for the preparation, evaluation and quality control of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
•Evaluate pharmacological and therapeutic data and support the rational use of medicines.
•Apply pharmaceutical care knowledge and communicate scientific information to patients and healthcare professionals.
•Use research methods and scientific data to address problems in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
