Description
The Undergraduate Study Programme in Pharmacy is a five-year programme (300 ECTS) leading to an Integrated Master's Degree. It provides comprehensive scientific education in pharmaceutical sciences, focusing on the design, development, production, quality control, distribution and rational use of medicines, as well as pharmaceutical care and public health protection. The curriculum includes theoretical courses, extensive laboratory training, a diploma thesis and compulsory professional internship.
Relation to Employment
Graduates acquire the professional rights of pharmacists and may work in community and hospital pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, quality control and analytical laboratories, research institutions, the National Organization for Medicines, public health organizations, pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies, medical device industries, as well as in education and research.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission is based on the Panhellenic Examinations or placement exams in accordance with current legislation. To be awarded the degree, students must successfully
complete ten semesters of study and earn 300 credit units (ECTS). The program leads to a single, uninterrupted degree (Integrated
Master’s).
Knowledge
Graduates possess comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences and health sciences. They understand pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical technology, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical analysis, biochemistry, microbiology, toxicology, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical legislation and pharmaceutical care. They acquire an integrated understanding of the medicine life cycle, from design and development to production, quality control, distribution and rational use, as well as the principles of public health protection.
Skills
Graduates are able to develop, prepare, analyse and evaluate pharmaceutical products, apply modern laboratory and analytical techniques, perform quality control of medicines, provide pharmaceutical care and scientific counselling to patients, evaluate pharmacotherapy, manage pharmaceutical data, participate in drug research and development, and apply ethical, safety and regulatory principles in pharmaceutical practice.
Competences
Graduates are competent to practise the profession of pharmacist responsibly across all areas of pharmaceutical science and healthcare. They are capable of designing, producing, quality controlling, distributing and safely dispensing medicines, participating in multidisciplinary healthcare teams, managing pharmacies and pharmaceutical services, conducting scientific research and demonstrating professional responsibility, critical thinking, ethical conduct and commitment to public health protection.
