Description

The School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SAMPS) of the National Technical University of Athens offers a five-year Undergraduate Study Programme (300 ECTS) leading to an Integrated Master's Degree. The programme provides a strong theoretical and applied background in applied mathematics, physics and computational sciences, emphasizing mathematical modelling, analysis and solution of complex engineering and technological problems, computational science and modern interdisciplinary applications. The curriculum includes theoretical and laboratory education, elective courses, a diploma thesis and opportunities for specialization in advanced scientific fields.

Relation to Employment

Graduates acquire a strong scientific background for careers in applied mathematics, physics, computational science, data analysis, artificial intelligence, industrial research, technological development, telecommunications, energy, financial engineering, information technology, education and research, as well as in public and private organizations requiring advanced analytical and computational expertise.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission is based on the Panhellenic Examinations or placement exams in accordance with current legislation. To be awarded the degree, students must successfully
complete ten semesters of study and earn 300 credit units (ECTS). The program leads to a single, continuous degree (Integrated
Master’s).

Knowledge

Graduates possess comprehensive and specialized knowledge in applied mathematics, physics and computational sciences. They understand fundamental and advanced theories of mathematics and physics, mathematical modelling of physical and technological systems, numerical and computational methods, statistical analysis, continuum mechanics, quantum and modern physics, together with their applications in science, engineering and technology. They acquire a strong theoretical background and an interdisciplinary perspective for addressing complex scientific problems.

Skills

Graduates are able to develop and apply mathematical models, analyse and solve complex problems using mathematical, physical and computational methods, employ modern computational tools and programming languages, process and analyse scientific data, design and conduct experimental and computational studies, develop innovative applications and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary research and technological projects.

Competences

Graduates are competent to work independently or as members of multidisciplinary teams in research, technological development and innovation. They are capable of applying advanced knowledge of mathematics and physical sciences to the design and implementation of complex scientific and technological applications, making evidence-based decisions, conducting original scientific research and demonstrating critical thinking, creativity, professional ethics and responsibility towards science, society and the environment.
