Description

The Undergraduate Study Programme is a five-year programme leading to an Integrated Master's Degree, Level 7, with 300 ECTS. It provides education in mining, metallurgy, materials technology, geological sciences and environmental engineering. The first seven semesters form the core curriculum, followed from the 8th semester by one of five specializations: Mining Technology, Geotechnology, Environmental Engineering and Geoenvironment, Metallurgical Processes, Science and Technology of Materials.

Relation to Employment

Graduates can work in the exploration and exploitation of mineral and energy resources, mines, quarries, geotechnical projects, metallurgy, materials production and processing, as well as environmental protection and restoration.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission is based on the Panhellenic Examinations or placement exams in accordance with current legislation. To be awarded the degree, students must successfully
complete ten semesters of study and earn 300 credit units (ECTS). The program leads to a single, continuous degree (Integrated
Master’s).

Knowledge

Graduates possess knowledge of mining, geology, mineralogy, economic geology, geotechnical engineering, metallurgy, materials technology, chemistry, thermodynamics and environmental engineering. They understand the principles of mineral resource exploration and exploitation, extraction, mineral processing, metallurgical processes, materials production and protection, and environmental protection.

Skills

Graduates are able to analyse and evaluate mineral resources and geological data, design and evaluate mining and metallurgical processes, apply geotechnical analysis methods, use laboratory and computational methods, process scientific data and address technical and environmental problems.

Competences

Graduates are competent to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams, apply scientific and technological knowledge to complex problems, adapt to scientific and technological developments, collaborate with engineers and scientists from related disciplines and further develop their expertise through postgraduate studies.
