Description

The Integrated Master's Degree of the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design is a five-year programme providing comprehensive scientific education in Forestry, Wood Sciences and Product Design. The programme covers the sustainable management and protection of the natural environment and forest ecosystems, the utilisation of forest products with emphasis on wood, wood technology and properties, as well as the design and production of wood-based products and structures. It also includes subjects related to economics, management, entrepreneurship, innovation and the application of modern digital technologies.The first six semesters are common to all students. From the seventh semester onwards, students choose one of two official study directions: Natural Environment Management or Wood Sciences and Product Design.

Relation to Employment

The qualification provides scientific and professional preparation for activities related to the management and protection of forest ecosystems and the natural environment, wood utilisation and technology, the design and production of wood products, as well as the management and economic organisation of enterprises in the sector. The official Study Guide also identifies employment opportunities in the private sector and self-employment as wood and furniture technologists and in product design.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission to the Programme requires a Unified High School Diploma and a high score in the National Higher Education Entrance Examinations. Following completion of the qualification, graduates may continue to postgraduate studies in Greece or abroad.

Knowledge

Graduates acquire comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles, scientific methodologies and decision-making tools related to Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design. This includes knowledge of the forest value chain, management and monitoring of forest ecosystems, climate change and bioeconomy, wood technology, wood properties and identification, production of wood and furniture products, product design, CAD/CAM/CAE systems, entrepreneurship, marketing and sustainable development.

Skills

Graduates are able to apply scientific and technological methods for the management of natural resources and forest ecosystems, the utilisation and processing of wood, product design and development, and the application of digital technologies and design and production systems.

Competences

Graduates are able to analyse and evaluate complex problems concerning the natural environment, forest ecosystems, the wood value chain and product design, develop and implement appropriate solutions, and combine scientific, technological and economic knowledge for sustainable development and the utilisation of natural resources.
