Description
The Integrated Master's Degree Programme of the Department of Environmental Engineering provides comprehensive education in Environmental Engineering and includes subject areas such as environmental protection and management, environmental management of technical projects, management of air pollutants, liquid and solid waste, remediation of polluted areas, renewable energy sources, water resources management, hydraulic works, environmental impacts, climate change and sustainable development.
Relation to Employment
Environmental Engineers may work in the public or private sector, independently or in cooperation with other engineering disciplines, in areas including environmental protection and management, environmental studies, water resources, waste, energy and environmental impacts of technical projects.Graduates of the Department of Environmental Engineering of the School of Engineering of IHU are registered with the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE).
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission is through the national entrance examinations or qualifying (transfer) examinations, in accordance with the applicable legislation. The award of the degree requires the successful completion of ten semesters of study and the accumulation of 300 ECTS credits. The program leads to the award of an Integrated Master's Degree.
Knowledge
The graduate acquires knowledge of the fundamental principles of Environmental Engineering, the structure and functioning of natural and artificial ecosystems, water, air and soil pollution, waste management, water resources and hydraulic works, renewable energy sources, environmental management of technical projects, climate change and sustainable development.
Skills
The graduate is able to analyse and design sustainable solutions to contemporary environmental problems, collect and evaluate environmental data, prepare environmental studies, and design, implement and monitor programmes for environmental protection and management.
Competences
The graduate is able to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams aiming at sustainable development and undertake roles in environmental management, applying technical, communication and scientific competences to address national and global environmental problems.
