Description

The Integrated Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering is offered by the Department of Chemical Engineering of the School of Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia. The programme provides comprehensive scientific and technological education in chemical engineering, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, the design and operation of chemical processes, environmental engineering, materials science and technology, and food technology. Students acquire theoretical knowledge, laboratory experience and practical skills for the analysis, design and development of chemical processes and technological applications.

Relation to Employment

The programme prepares Chemical Engineers for employment in industry, chemical process design and management, energy, environment, materials, food technology, and research and development. It also provides opportunities for postgraduate and doctoral studies.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission is carried out through the Panhellenic Examinations or transfer examinations, in accordance with the applicable legislation. To obtain the degree, students are required to successfully complete ten semesters of study and accumulate 300 ECTS credits. The programme leads to a single and undivided degree (Integrated Master).

Knowledge

Upon completion of the programme, graduates are expected to:
• Have comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental and applied sciences of Chemical Engineering.
• Understand the principles of chemical thermodynamics, transport phenomena, chemical reactions and processes.
• Have knowledge of the design, operation and optimisation of chemical and industrial processes.
• Possess knowledge in energy, environmental engineering, materials and food technology.
• Be familiar with methods of mathematical modelling, simulation, data analysis and scientific research in Chemical Engineering.

Skills

Upon completion of their studies, students will be able to:
• Apply scientific and engineering methods to analyse and solve Chemical Engineering problems.
• Design, analyse and evaluate chemical processes and industrial systems.
• Use computational, laboratory and technical tools for the modelling, simulation and evaluation of processes.
• Evaluate processes and technological applications based on energy efficiency, environmental protection and sustainability criteria.
• Collaborate effectively in technical and multidisciplinary teams and communicate scientific and technical information.

Competences

Graduates will be able to:
• Address complex Chemical Engineering problems through analytical, synthetic and interdisciplinary approaches.
• Make informed decisions concerning the design, operation and optimisation of chemical and industrial processes.
• Responsibly undertake the design and support of technological and production projects.
