Description
The Integrated Master's Degree in Visual and Applied Arts is offered by the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Western Macedonia. The programme provides comprehensive artistic, theoretical and studio-based education in painting, sculpture, printmaking, and applied and digital arts. It also includes studies in art history and theory, aesthetics, museology, cultural management and art education.
Relation to Employment
The programme prepares graduates for artistic, educational and professional activities in visual and applied arts, artistic creation, digital and audiovisual media, cultural and artistic organisations, as well as the teaching of visual arts. It also provides opportunities for postgraduate and doctoral studies.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission is carried out through the Panhellenic Examinations or transfer examinations, in accordance with the applicable legislation. To obtain the degree, students are required to successfully complete ten semesters of study and accumulate 300 ECTS credits. The programme leads to a single and undivided degree (Integrated Master).
Knowledge
Upon completion of the programme, graduates are expected to:
• Have comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles and methodologies of visual and applied arts.
• Understand the principles of painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital arts and other contemporary forms of artistic expression.
• Have knowledge of the history, theory and aesthetics of art, as well as fundamental principles of museology and cultural management.
• Possess knowledge of artistic materials, techniques, production processes and contemporary digital media.
• Understand fundamental principles of visual arts education and the relationship between art, education and culture.
Skills
Upon completion of their studies, students will be able to:
• Apply artistic and visual methods to create and develop personal artistic work.
• Use different materials, techniques and media, including digital and audiovisual tools.
• Design, implement and document artistic proposals and works.
• Apply theoretical and historical knowledge to analyse and document artistic works and practices.
• Present and communicate their artistic work effectively and collaborate in interdisciplinary and artistic environments.
