Description

The graduate of the Department of Early Childhood Education:
1. Has advanced knowledge in the field of early childhood education and care for children of that age, while critically understanding the respective scientific theories and principles that apply during the practice of the profession.
2. Is capable of using the knowledge about the development of skills and has the ability of developing the necessary arguments in order to resolve composite problems in the practical field of the early childhood educator.
3. Is able to gather and interpret elements concerning the moral, social, and scientific issues related to Early Childhood Care and Education.
4. Is capable of managing composite technical or professional activities by undertaking the responsibility in order to take decisions at a level of professional activities or provision of consulting and educational services related to early childhood education.
5. Is capable of developing the skills required in order to acquire knowledge and further his/her studies with significant autonomy.
6. Is capable and/or understands, interprets, applies critical thinking, and transmits knowledge regarding a wide range of issues relevant to the field of preschool care and education, depending on the academic or professional requirements and the needs of society, economy, and of the labour market.

Further Information

The purpose of the undergraduate Programme of Studies of the Department of Early Childhood Education is to promote the development and dissemination of knowledge in the scientific fields of studies and applications of early care and education, through teaching and applied research, while providing students with the necessary assets for the proper and suitable scientific and professional training in the cognitive field of care and education of pre-schoolers.
The curriculum covers the subjects of the sciences of early childhood care and education and of the applications thereof, according to recent scientific and social developments in education, training, and care of pre-schoolers.
The main cognitive subjects of the Programme are the sciences of Pedagogics and Psychology. These sciences constitute the basis of the programme, since the various cognitive subjects and the content of the courses taught are viewed in reference to Pedagogics and Psychology. Specifically, the Programme of Studies provides general and specialized knowledge comprising a wide range of knowledge, competences, and skills, which render students suitable for their future professional career and advancement in the field of early childhood care and education.

Relation To Employment

The Degree in Early Childhood Education of Technological Education (T.E.) of the Department of Early Childhood Education, of the Faculty of Health Professions and Welfare is necessary to work as an Early Childhood Education Specialist.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
