Description

Graduates of the Department have the necessary theoretical and practical background in order to become a reputable scientist in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. Graduates are able to apply to the actual population the specialized knowledge obtained through the Department's curriculum and through the practical exercise in private practices or hospitals. They are able of analysing, adjusting, and resolving any issues that may come up, using scientific methods and sources. Graduates are capable of taking decisions regarding nutritional needs and put their specialised knowledge into practice.

Further Information

The purpose of the Department is to educate students in order to become Nutrition and Dietetics scientists, who, thanks to their theoretical and applied scientific training, are able to develop the applications of science and transmit, use and advance modern technology, methods, practices, and techniques in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. The curriculum consists of core courses with emphasis on the sciences of Biology and Chemistry, courses helping students understand the composition and differentiations of the nutritional value of food, depending on the processing thereof, along with specialization courses in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics, both in normal and in pathological conditions.
The separate objectives of the Department are the following:
1. Development of suitable theoretical background of studies.
2. Development of a high level of laboratory and practical training.
3. Use of modern technologies in education.
4. Development of student competences and skills, allowing them to become competitive at a national and international environment.
5. Conduct of mainly technological research.
6. Development of collaborations with other Higher Education institutes.
7. Collaboration with bodies engaged with this cognitive subject.

Relation To Employment

The title of studies is a condition in order to work as a Nutritionist - Dietician.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
