Knowledge: Upon the successful completion of the Postgraduate Studies Programme (PSP), the graduate must be thoroughly knowledgeable about subjects that refer to advanced methods of Statistics and Statistical Control of processing and developing of new foods, to Systems of Quality Management, food safety and environmental management, to subjects related to the organization of production systems, design of business resources, food law and proper laboratory practice, advanced examination techniques and instrumental food analysis.
Skills: Upon the successful completion of studies in the PSP, the graduate must be able to operate analytical devices of cutting-edge technology for food inspection, process laboratory data and use them for safety and quality control, apply advanced techniques for the statistical processing of data, prepare quality and safety manuals, manuals for proper laboratory practice and environmental management, apply and use production and business resources planning software, while being able to follow up on and apply the latest instructions in the European food legislation.
Competences: Upon the successful completion of the PSP, the graduate is expected to undertake from positions of responsibility the development, management, and coordination of sectors referring to the Systems of Quality, Food Safety and Planning of Production, update these systems, evaluate the effectiveness of their application for the proper operation of the company. Inspire trust and reliability to his/her associates with his/her knowledge and skills, in order to be capable of undertaking leading initiatives regarding problems that must be resolved immediately and responsibly.

The purpose of the Postgraduate Studies Programme (PSP) is the creation of highly trained scientists through the provision of specialized knowledge in the fields of Food Science and Technology referring to the Management of Quality, the Organisation of Production, and the Safety of Food. To achieve this goal, the education of students includes courses on Advanced Statistical Food Science, Statistical Process Control / Product Design and Development, Good Laboratory Practice, Food Legislation, Advanced Food Testing Methods, Laboratory Exercises in Instrumental Food Analysis, Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 and ISO22000), Environmental management systems (ISO 14000), Design and Organization of Production Systems and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems. The education of students is completed through the issuing of a postgraduate research dissertation.

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
