The postgraduate studies programme is addressed to scientists and professionals for whom design thinking is a necessary condition for the successful encounter with any new challenge. In this way, the postgraduate studies programme is not a standard specialisation programme, but a programme of transformation, i.e. a programme that:
(a) is addressed to candidates with various specialisations related to design, and
(b) enrich their skills in order to be able to deal with more composite and complicated problems with a methodological and anthropocentric approach, and with the use and application of new technologies.
The basic characteristics of the programme:
Interdisciplinarity. The purpose of the postgraduate studies programme is to train scientists who shall be able to use creatively new technologies, science, and art with the purpose of designing useful and functional Products and Services for the emerging new reality in the society of information.
Anthropocentric design thinking. The anthropocentric approach for design pays emphasis on the participation of customers - users in the procedure, ensuring the acceptance of the final outcome by the system clients.
Holistic and methodological treatment for the design of products and systems. Complicated design problems require a holistic and methodological treatment during the design procedure.
Knowhow for design. The constructive use of technology offers the designer a precious tool for the treatment of design problems.
The minimum duration of the acquisition of a Master's Degree is three (3) semesters. Postgraduate students are obliged to attend and be successfully examined in ten (10) postgraduate courses during the first two semesters, and completed in the third semester the Postgraduate Dissertation.
Relation To Employment
Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
