Description

The learners at a level of knowledge: (a) Have increased specialised knowledge about environmental science, which includes sufficient data from cutting edge scientific developments and constitutes the basis for original thinking, research and professional activity, (b) demonstrate critical understanding of the principles, theories, methodologies and practices of environmental science, as well as of its interconnection with other cognitive fields, and (c) have increased critical understanding of the evolutionary dynamics and of the cutting edge subjects of environmental science.

At skill level, the learners: (a) easily apply the theories and methodologies of environmental science in their research, study and work with a critical and creative manner, (b) apply with originality the knowledge acquire to research, analysis, and development of innovative solutions in composite, interdisciplinary and innovative issues, (c) are capable of evaluating, interpreting, and promoting modern scientific research and studies in their field of study, (d) articulate with a deductive and scientifically documented manner, solutions for modern and new issues and formulate valid judgement taking into consideration the various relevant social, financial, cultural and moral aspects, and (e) document their views using specialised information and arguments, to specialised audience or laymen, with clarity, sufficiency, and accuracy.

At competence level: (a) they continue developing with autonomy their knowledge and competences at a high level, (b) they apply with professionalism the specialised knowledge and competences they have acquired and they effectively deal with new, interdisciplinary or unforeseen issues, (c) they resolve problems and take strategic decisions using deductive reasoning, (d) they contribute to the development of knowledge and practices in the professional and business field, and (e) they undertake autonomously the responsibility for the education / further learning of a group and evaluate its performance.

Further Information

The purpose of the Programme is the training of postgraduate students in environmental sciences through applied research. The Programme is focused on the development by the students of a framework (theoretical and/or experimental) on cutting edge issues for the environment following the attendance of special seminar courses on the subjects of Research Design and Development, Environmental Engineering and Science, Applied Ecology and Social and Humanitarian Sciences of the Environment. The completion of the programme requires the submission of an original scientific article, which must be considered noteworthy for publication in an approved scientific journal with reviewers and with an extended summary.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
