Description

Following the successful completion of their studies, the graduates may:
- apply knowledge of mathematics and physics in the description, interpretation, resolution, and investigation of problems of informatics and telecommunications;
- recognize the individual building blocks of computer systems and telecommunications networks and know their role;
- develop software, by using suitable programming languages and techniques;
- design computer and telecommunications networks, such as electrical and electronic arrangements, under realistic conditions and limitations;
- analyse systems, signals, and data with the use of suitable tools;
- describe and resolve composite IT and telecommunication problems, by making use of the knowledge acquired;
- develop accurate or approximate models for various problems and conduct simulations and calculations using suitable methods;
- construct experimental arrangements, conduct measurements and interpret the results thereof;
- work with and adjust to different architectures and operating environments;
- study, compare, implement, and improve algorithms;
- express clearly and with accuracy, through oral presentations and written texts;
- integrate modern software packages in their work method;
- make use of laboratory and relevant measuring equipment with safety and reliability;
- understand modern and future IT and telecommunications applications;
- collaborate with others and operate effectively, within the context of a group;
- learn new knowledge and technologies, and adjust to different conditions;
- search for and suggest new tools, when the existing solutions are limited or ineffective;
- understand the role and the importance of relevant natural sciences in their professional activity;
- be aware of the connection and interaction between their cognitive subject and society;
- follow safety rules in their work environment;
- identify the need for lifelong learning, in order to update their knowledge, further cultivate their competences, and remain effective and competitive in employment field.

Further Information

The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering aims to the cultivation and promotion of education, scientific research, and knowledge concerning the basic aspects of the computer and telecommunications engineer, and has the following mission:
a) Cultivate and promote knowledge over the basic aspects of informatics and telecommunication and network technology.
b) Provide specialized knowledge on modern fields of informatics and telecommunications, such as data analysis, the internet, signal analysis, and image, software technology, mobile and satellite communications, etc.
c) Offer students the necessary assets ensuring their proper training for a scientific and professional career, especially in IT and communications companies, and in the public sector.

The content of studies covers the cognitive subjects of Informatics and Telecommunications from the Engineer's point of view. Specifically, the curriculum may be analysed in several thematic sections, such as: background courses, computer programming, networks, computer systems, communications, computer science, electronics, signals, energy and modern applications.

The various subjects taught to students are the following: programming languages, telecommunication systems and services, analogue and digital circuits, analogue and digital communications, computer networks and communications, coding, transmission and information processing, electrical and electronics, modelling and systems design, software development, algorithms, databases, mobile / optical / microwave communications, parallel / distributed / embedded systems, internet technologies, and modern applications.

Relation To Employment

This title of studies bestows the vocational rights described in Government Gazette A' 58/2009. The graduates of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications Engineers fall into the Technical Chamber of Greece, in the category of Electronic Engineers.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
