Description

Expand and adjust their knowledge in new or specialised subjects of their scientific field.
Develop the skills referring to the ability of applying the knowledge, the methods, and the techniques that apply in the Medical Laboratories, as well as the ability of conducting integrated operations in the Medical Laboratories, including the application of laboratory methods and procedures, using a laboratory equipment, tools, instruments, and laboratory materials.
Develop the competence of using the knowledge, the skills, and the methodological potential of their subject of studies in the Medical Laboratories, both with regard to the provision of healthcare services, and in studies or research, as well as during their entire professional and scientific career.
The Graduates of the Department of Medical Laboratories shall be capable of:
- Conducting all laboratory testing in the field of Medical Laboratories.
- Apply modern scientific methods and techniques that relate to the execution of laboratory tests.
- Evaluate and ensure the quality result thereof.

Further Information

Upon completing their studies, the graduates of the Medical Laboratories Department acquire the necessary, as per the international standards, theoretical and technological knowledge and skills, in order to successfully proceed with the following: a) pursue Postgraduate Studies in Tertiary Educational Institutions domestically or abroad, b) follow, based on the background of their studies, the fast developments, both theoretical and technological, in their cognitive subject, and c) work in every aspect of the subject of the Department, as managers or executives in Medical and other Biological and Biochemical Laboratories, private or public health agencies, businesses, and organisations.

Relation To Employment

The degree issued by the Department of Medical Laboratories is necessary to work as a Medical Laboratories Technologist. The vocational rights of the graduates of the Department of Medical Laboratories are specified under Presidential Decree 163/5-6-1996 (Government Gazette 118/14-6-96 bulletin A).

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
