Introductory Direction for Health and Welfare Units:

The Curriculum of the Introductory Direction for the Administration of Health and Welfare Units combines the following:
a) subjects aimed at the analysis of the units (organizations and institutions) of public and private sector in Health and Welfare,
b) subjects that offer specific knowledge on the provision of health services and welfare by Health and Social Protection Systems - Social inclusion, and
c) subjects with a clear orientation to policies, use of resources, and meeting the needs of recipients.

Skills of a Graduate of the AHWU:
Upon completion of their studies, students of the Introductory Direction of AHWU a) Have advanced knowledge of their various cognitive fields of study, involving a critical understanding of theories and principles; b) possess advanced skills, combine understanding with application, having the required skill and innovation to solve complex and unpredictable problems in specialized fields of study and work; c. develop problem solving skills, transferring the knowledge received and the skills obtained about decision-making and managing workgroups in health and welfare services.
Upon completion of their studies, graduates of the Introductory Direction of AHWU acquire the necessary scientific and technological knowledge, abilities and skills to be able to operate as an administration-management executives of health and welfare services, particularly in the following areas:
- Organisation, operation and coordination of activities of health services - welfare for their effective and efficient operation.
- Design and implementation of economic programs, issuing and implementation of budget, balance sheet, reporting, handling of financial matters.
- Administration-management of human resources, development of services staff or of health and welfare units.
- Implementation of programs and planning of efficiency and effectiveness improvement measures for health and welfare services.
- Edit statistics and data, systematic monitoring of outflows and results, feedback and redesign of goals and means of attaining them.
- Identification of the work made by health and welfare units, in partnership with health and other personnel, definition of operational responsibilities per industry workers.
- Leading role in administrative services Exercise (Administrations, Directorates Subdivisions, Departments or Offices) in health and welfare units.
- Organization of work, ergonomics, functional design of work areas and development of health and welfare services in terms of their accommodation.
- Tracking patient traffic and observance of the administrative-accounting flow of hospitalisation procedures.
- Promotion of scientific research on issues regarding the economy, the organization, and the administration and management of health and welfare services.
- Total Quality Management (TQM), particularly in the areas of organizational-administrative, economic-administrative and economic-managerial development of health and welfare services.

The graduates of Introductory Direction in AHWU, upon receiving their degree, can practice the profession within the context of the above professional entity and perform, by way of example, the following activities (Presidential Decree, Government Gazette 159 / 06.14.1989 Article 4):
- Practice administrative tasks in administrative and executive services of health and welfare services.
- Supervise and administer of staff in health and welfare units, apart from the hospital staff.
- Monitor the hospitalisation and discharge of patients and persons treated in health and welfare units and keeping of their accounts.
- Participate in the identification of the work of health and welfare units in collaboration with the health, technical and other staff.
- Participate in the improvement and development of health and welfare units.
- Participate in the preparation and implementation of the health and welfare units' budget.
- Participate in the preparation of a building programme for health and welfare units.
- Collect, process and use statistics for health and welfare units.
- Participate in the planning and development of activities for health and welfare units.
- Supply food, medicines, equipment, etc. to health and welfare units.

Special Competences and Skills:
Graduates of Introductory Direction in AHWU, upon completion of their studies, are able to perform professional work, having, apart from the above competences, the following special competences and skills that are important for ensuring quality at work, at the social interactions developed in the work environment of health and welfare services.

Direction of Health and Welfare Units Administration: The curriculum of the Introductory Direction of Health and Welfare Units Administration combines the following: a) Cognitive subjects that aim to the analysis of the units (organisations and bodies) of the public and private Health and Welfare sector, b) cognitive subjects that offer specific knowledge on the provision of health and welfare services of the Health and Social Protection - Social Inclusion Systems, and c) cognitive subjects with a clear orientation towards the policies, the exploitation of resources, and the satisfaction of the needs of the beneficiaries. It offers the students with advanced knowledge, skills, and competences in the field of Health and Welfare Units Management that will help them in their scientific and professional development and career, while allowing them to cope with the current requirements of the labour market for the Health and Social Protection services. The main cognitive subjects refer to the Organisation - Administration - Management of Health and Welfare Services, the Organisation - Administration - Management of Primary Healthcare, the Administration of Human Resources in Health and Welfare, Health Systems, Systems for Social Protection, Health Economics, Design of Health Services and Social Policy, Health Law, Social Care Law, Sociology of Health and Quality of Life, IT Health systems. The curriculum prepares the students interested to continue to the Second Cycle and to the Third Cycle of Studies (Postgraduate Studies in the Administration of Health and Welfare Units, focused and specialized on Public Health, on the Design of Health / Social Protection Policies, on the development of Health IT Systems, etc.). This context increases the student-oriented character of the studies, by ensuring quality education and the required effectiveness of the educational work. The developmental priorities of the Programme are focused on the cultivation of critical skills for the students, the development of scientific thought, and the competence of taking the initiative and resolving complex problems. The basic mission is the creation of integrated personalities of professionals, who shall actively contribute to the modernization of the Health and Social Welfare policies.

Relation To Employment

The Department of Business Administration has the cognitive subject of its Introductory Directions (Presidential Decree 95/2013, Article 2, par. G). Under the current institutional framework, every Introductory Direction (a. Administration of Tourism Businesses and Businesses, b. Administration of Health and Welfare Units, c. Business Administration) is addressed to a separate number of admissions, through a separate code of choice when completing the computerized admissions card and has a curriculum that is based on its cognitive subject. At the same time, it is expressly provided that the relevant Introductory Direction is indicated in the Department's Study Title. Also, the graduates of each Introductory Direction are bestowed with professional rights based on different PD.:
PD 107/ 1989 on Business Administration.
PD 351/1989 on the Management of Health and Welfare Units
PD 356/1989 on the Administration of Tourism Businesses and Hospitality Businesses

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
