Description

The Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts provides theoretical, artistic and technological education in the fields of photography and video, with the objective of study in and researching contemporary visual culture and its relationship with the practices of photography and audiovisual media, including the creative development of knowledge in the fields of applications and the arts.
The curriculum aims at acquiring intellectual, aesthetic and technical skills that allow graduates to cope with a) the conduct of postgraduate studies; b) the need for keeping in track with developments in photographic technology; c) requirements for the creation of high-level artistic work; and d) the competitive working environment in the areas of photojournalism, advertising, digital image processing, video and multimedia.
Graduates of the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts, having acquired the necessary scientific, theoretical, technical and aesthetic background and, having developed the creative and critical skills, can work as professionals in a significant number of applications, as researchers and scholars, as artists, as executives in businesses, organizations and services in the private and public sectors, as educators, as curators, as editors of publications and hosts of events in cultural / artistic bodies.

Further Information

During the four years of studying, the students are thoroughly trained in the theoretical, artistic and technical properties of photographic image and video. Equipped with the necessary knowledge, they apply creatively their personal methodologies and innovative thoughts, to a wide range of specialized application fields, in the areas of art, photojournalism, advertising, and video.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
