" Upon completing his/her studies, the graduate of the Department, certified Hygienists of Technological Education, has the knowledge and practical experience to successfully operate either independently or in collaboration with other scientists and technologists in the following fields:
a. Safeguarding Public Health
b. Ensure the hygiene in businesses of hygienic concern.
c. Ensure food quality assurance at all stages of production, distribution, and marketing.
d. Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Protection,
e. Occupational Health and Safety.
In these fields, and their respective segments, the Department's graduate will be able to undertake responsibly the following:
i. The preparation of Health studies.
ii. Epidemiological surveys.
iii. Health checks, and expert reports.
iv. Preventive legality checks.
v. Applications for sanitation, disinfection, sterilization, insecticide, pest control etc.
vi. Environmental testing, water quality testing, testing of water and wastewater treatment plants, inspections of solid waste management and treatment plants.
vii. Sampling of water, sewage, wastewater, solid waste, etc.
viii. Sound measurements.
ix. Assurance of water supply and sewage hygiene.
x. Prevention and implementation of health and safety measures for workers for protecting them against occupational hazards.
xi. Implementation of measures in closed population groups for protecting them from epidemics, diseases, etc.
xii. Ensuring hygiene in hospitals and health centres.
xiii. Ensuring hygiene in schools.
xiv. Health inspections in undertakings of hygienic concern and assurance of the hygiene thereof.
xv. Educational programs for the promotion and support of health.
xvi. Consultancy for issues of quality assurance, hygiene, and food safety in food businesses.
xvii. Design of HAACP and ISO quality programs.
xviii. Teaching at all levels of education on Personal, Public and Social Health and Environmental Hygiene.

Further Information

The graduate of the Department is awarded with the title "Certified Hygienist of Technological Education". The professional rights of the graduates of the Department of Public Health and Community Health - Direction for Public Health (former Department of Public Health) are specified in Presidential Decree 83/1989, article 4 (Government Gazette 37/07-02-89, first bulletin).
Upon completing his/her studies, the graduate of the Department, Certified Hygienist of Technological Education, shall have the knowledge and practical experience to engage successfully either on his/her own or in collaboration with other scientists and technologists, with the following subjects:
a) Protection of Public Health
b) Protection of health in businesses of hygienic interest
c) Protection of food quality at every level of production, distribution, and marketing
d) Hygienic Engineering and Protection of the Environment
e) Occupational hygiene and Safety

Relation To Employment

"1.The Degree of the Direction of Public Health by the Department of Public and Community Health is necessary to pursue the profession of Hygienist of Technological Education. * The Department of Health Visitors and the Department of Public Health, of the School of Health and Caring Professions of Athens Technological Educational Institute have been merged since 01/09/2013 into the new Department of Public and Community Health, with the following introductory directions: a) Public Health, and b) Community Health pursuant to Presidential Decree 95/2013 (Government Gazette 133 / 05.06.2013, bulletin A').

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
