Description

After completing their studies, graduates of the Department acquire the necessary scientific and technological knowledge, abilities and skills to operate as a Dental Technologist responsible in areas of their competence:
- They assume responsibility for the establishment and operation of a dental laboratory and are able to ensure the quality and certify the suitability of dental prostheses manufactured.
- They choose the appropriate machinery and institutions to equip dental laboratories, see to their maintenance and implement the relevant hygiene and safety rules.
- They stay up to date about for modern materials, choosing the appropriate ones, for the required biological behaviour and the laboratory method to be followed, based on the specific case at hand.
- They man the dental laboratory with qualified staff; they supervise them and assign them with specific tasks, depending on their specialty.
- They design and manufacture all types of dental prostheses, of Mobile and Fixed Prosthodontics, according to the written instructions of the dentist, with the aim of preserving or restoring the balance of the stomatognathic system.
- They designs and manufacture various types of orthodontic devices, both intraoral and extraoral retainers, according to the instructions of their dental colleagues.
- They possess the fundamentals of prosthetic implants and maxillofacial prosthetics to be able to attend specialized courses.
- In the context of collective work, they participate in a work group with expert dentists for the design and manufacture of the above prostheses.
They carry out studies and participate in research groups.
- They are employed at different levels of education, according to the current applicable legislation.

Further Information

The objective of the curriculum is the adjustment of the cognitive subjects of training to modern labour market requirements and to the specialized new, focused, knowledge required of the graduates of Technological Educational Institutions. An important factor for the design and formulation of the curriculum of the Department of Dental Technology is the subjects and the segments of the future professional employment of the Department's graduates. The provision of integrated education on the cognitive subject of Dental Technology.
The elaboration of the curriculum was based on the following criteria:
- Completeness with regard to the cognitive subjects of the specialty.
- Modernisation of the material of the cognitive subjects taught.
- Balance between the main and supplementary cognitive subjects.
- Avoidance of overlapping in the material of the various courses.
- Avoidance of paying excessive attention to specific courses versus others.
- Introduction of new courses and innovative educational methods, which contribute significantly to the preparation of the Department's graduate to cope with modern professional challenges.
- Focus on the development of research methodology.
The pre-graduate curriculum includes eight courses of General Background, six courses of Finance and Management, eight courses of Special Background, sixteen specialization courses, and the Practical Training. Total courses: 37. Among them: Specialisation Courses = 16 (43.2%)
Total hours = 179. These are divided as follows: Theoretical courses =107 and Practical courses =72.
The rates are T 60% = 106.5 and P 40% = 71.6.

Relation To Employment

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
