The learning outcomes of the postgraduate programme in the Technology of Energy are the following:
A. Knowledge
- The acquisition of a wide but analytical perception of the current issues of energy.
- The acquisition of the basic principles of technology sciences, which are related to energy, since these are chosen by the student and are directly related to the history of his/her personal and professional interests.
- The understanding of concepts, principles, theories, and applications of specialized technologies in select cutting-edge issues with regard to energy.
- The development of knowledge about entrepreneurship, management, legal and social issues, in the technology of energy.
B. Skills
- The integration of the principles of technology with knowledge and the understanding of mathematics, science, and management, in order to allow for the adoption of integrated approaches for the resolution of problems.
- The use of numerous sources for the production and evaluation of ideas.
- The use of mathematical models for the evaluation and resolution of technological problems.
- The analysis of composite situations of interdisciplinary nature for the creation of suitable business strategies.
C. Skills
- Resolution of problems for the production of original and creative solutions with regard to general and specific energy issues.
- Effective design and analysis of energy projects.
- Evaluation of financial details on energy investments and application of the best possible solutions.
- Competence for autonomous and team work, with ability to change roles and responsibilities.
- Application of rules of professional ethics, related to proper professional practice.

Further Information

School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot Watt University, Scotland, U.K., together with the Department of Energy Technology Engineering of Technological Education, School of Technological Applications of Athens TEI. The title is unified and granted in common by both Institutions.
The educational objectives of the project is to provide a theoretical and practical background for the technologies, along with wider knowledge and skills in the field of Energy, both for the implementing Engineer and for the Engineer with a directing role, with regard to decision-taking and strategy formulation. Analytically:
- They shall undertake the various issues about energy and the future of the industry of energy, by integrating technologies with management strategies.
- Produce postgraduate students with the ability to contribute to the formulation of the future directions of the industry that is connected with the wider concept of the field of energy.
- Equip postgraduate students with knowledge and skills that are necessary for a positive outcome of their business strategies.
- Transmit to postgraduate students a wide interdisciplinary technical training, along with deeper knowledge and work competencies for specialized select technologies.
- Develop skills for resolving problems and the competence for applying such skills in developing, innovative solutions for the practical needs of society.

Relation To Employment

The postgraduate title of studies is not legally connected to a professional license, but is a qualification that certifies the specialization of the holder in cutting-edge energy technological subjects that are directly related to the practice of the profession in the field of energy applications.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
