Description

The graduates of the Department of Speech and Language therapy, who acquire the professional title "Speech Therapists" are capable of working on their own or in collaboration with others in the fields of the cognitive subject of Speech Therapy. Specifically, they acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and competences about the application of the biological and natural sciences for the evaluation of human communication - voice, speech and language - and the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and scientific research of the disorders related to it.

The Department of Speech and Language Therapy aims to the education of students about the application of the biological and natural sciences for the evaluation of human communication - voice, speech, language, feeding and swallowing -- and the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and scientific research of the disorders related to it. The various cognitive subjects of the new curriculum consist of the following:
- Background Cognitive Subjects (such as Language Development, Linguistics, Evolutionary Psychology, Anatomy - Hearing Physiology, Speech, Language, Phonetics, Health IT, Clinical Psychology);
- Cognitive Subjects of General Knowledge (such as Statistics and Software in behaviour sciences, Research Methodologies in behavioural sciences, etc.);
- Cognitive Subjects of Scientific Field (such as Introduction to Language Therapy, Developmental Language Disorders, Neuroanatomy - Neurophysiology, Pathophysiology of Hearing, Speech, and Language, Audiology, etc.);
- Cognitive Subjects for the Development of Skills (Cognitive Approaches in Speech Pathology, Diagnosis and Treatment of Disorders in the oral speech using new technologies, Swallowing - Dysphagia Disorders).

Relation To Employment

The graduate of the Department of Speech Therapy is entitled to work as a Speech Therapist.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
