Description

The graduates of the Department of Mathematics:

- Have knowledge of core mathematical tools of Algebra, Analysis and Differential Equations.
- Have knowledge of the core principles of Programming and Computer Software.
- Understand mathematical problems and are capable of designing models for the solution thereof.
- Have basic Physics knowledge.
- Have basic knowledge of Pedagogics, History, and Didactics for Mathematics.
- Have the opportunity of acquiring professional experience either in Secondary Education, or in Businesses through Practical Training.

The purpose of the Programme of Undergraduate Studies of the Department of Mathematics is for its graduates to become:
- High calibre scientists;
- Holders of proper scientific education;
- Competitive in the labour market.

The Programme of Studies includes the following:
• 16 Compulsory courses (English for Mathematics, Algebra, Analysis I & II, Infinitesimal calculus I, II, III & IV, Linear Algebra I & II, Introduction to Computing, Complex Analysis, Probability, Ordinary Differential Equations I,
Totals and Numbers, Physics I)
- 23 Compulsory Elective Courses and 6 additional ECCs from the Department of Mathematics and Introductory Direction of Statistics and Actuarial - Financial Mathematics and 7 additional ECC from the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering.
- 11 Elective Courses and additional 17 Elective courses from the Department of Mathematics and Introductory Direction of Statistics and Actuarial - Financial Mathematics and 25 Elective courses from the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineers.

The following are required in order to graduate:
- Successful examination in the 16 compulsory courses.
- Successful examination in 18 Compulsory Elective Courses (72 credits) from which at least 11 (44 credits) must come from the ECCs of the Department.
- Acquisition of at least 240 ECTS credits.
- Option to prepare a dissertation (equal to 3 Elective and 12 credits).

Relation To Employment

The graduate of the Department of Mathematics is entitled to work as Professor of Mathematics in the Secondary Education (field University Education 03 Mathematics).

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
