Description

Knowledge: Basic knowledge of economics, management and finance, understanding and use of quantitative and calculative methods for the resolution of problems of the respective fields.

Skills: Modelling and resolution of composite problems regarding management, economics and finance, using quantitative and calculative methods for the administration, the application of project management principles, the management of operations and production, the management of the supply chain, financial engineering and strategic management.

Competences: Identification of problems, solution using quantitative and calculative methods, financial evaluation of alternative solutions, and definition of strategy. Effective treatment of new, interdisciplinary issues. Contribution to the development of knowledge and practices in order to deal with the above issues.

Learning outcomes: Wide-ranging training of the executives (engineers) with a strong analytical background on subjects of administration engineering and financial engineering. Familiarisation with methodological tools for the management and use of the available technology and knowhow in the field of finance, operations management, decision taking, and investments. Cultivation of analytical and synthesizing skills for the strategy, organisation, and operation of businesses, decision taking, and the management of financial products.

The purpose of the programme is the provision of knowledge, tools, and methods required for the development and management of projects and technological systems, the resolution of operational problems, the taking of decisions and the setting of policy, as well as the development of organisations related to the economy of technology and information.

Relation To Employment

The Master's Degree in Financial and Management Engineering supports and empowers certified engineers and graduates of positive and financial sciences, providing them with specialized knowledge of quantitative and calculative methods with applications in problems of economics, management, and finance. Therefore, it supplements the profile of "traditional" engineers with specialized knowledge on economics and management, while equipping the profile of other specialisations of positive and financial sciences with the way of thinking of an engineer when dealing with real world problems.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
