Description

The holder of an EPAS certificate of this specialty:
Knowledge:

1. Identifies and describes the types of greenhouses, frame and cover materials and their properties.
2. Identifies and describes the role of heating, ventilation, lighting, irrigation and fertilisation - fertigation - mist propagation, hydroponics, automation, greenhouse electronic monitoring and control system.
3. Identifies and describes the hand tools and power tools (fixed or portable) for the construction of the frame greenhouses (metal, wood).
4. Identifies and describes the parts and essential organs of plants, and the role they have in the success of farming.
5. Identifies the basic classes and types of soil based on their mechanical incorporation.
6. Describes the various soil preparation stages for cultivation and the appropriate climatic growing conditions.
7. Recognizes the seed, describing the stages of germination and cultivation, and the ways for cultivating flowers and vegetable crops.
8. Distinguishes between different categories of pests, diseases and weeds in greenhouse crops, implements available ways to address them and recognizes the risks associated with pesticide use.
9. Describes the irrigation methods and equipment required to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each method and applies them during cultivation.
10. Describes how to disinfect safely the greenhouse.
11. Identifies and describes agricultural machinery (soil preparation, cultivation treatments) used in greenhouses and explain the role and function thereof.
12. Identifies, describes the facilities, the equipment and the materials for the multiplication of plants.
Skills:
1. Assembles the construction materials for the frame of a greenhouse and the cover materials, using appropriate tools (fixed or portable).
2. Places, maintains and repair heating, ventilation, lighting, irrigation and fertilization and fertigation - mist propagation, hydroponics, automation, greenhouse electronic monitoring and control systems.
3. Applies the various soil preparation stages for cultivation.
4. Sows and cultivates flowers and vegetable plants under suitable conditions and organizes the method of sale thereof.
5. Applies appropriate irrigation methods and the equipment necessary, depending on the cultivation.
6. Uses, regulates and sustains agricultural machinery (soil preparation, cultivation treatments) and the equipment used in greenhouses and proceeds to minor repairs.
7. Uses and maintain the facilities, equipment and materials for the propagation of plants and propagates them.
8. Addresses the various types of pests, diseases and pests of greenhouse crops, applying the methods available by taking adequate protection measures.
9. Applies ways for disinfecting the greenhouses while taking appropriate protective measures.
10. Maintains accounting records of the farm and crop data and uses the basic rules of agricultural economy.
11. Meets the basic rules of health and safety.

Transitions

Access to EPAS is given to graduates of 1st grade of General Upper Secondary School (Lykeio) or Vocational Upper Secondary School (EPAL).
The holders of Ptychio EPAS have access to:
- the 2nd grade of General Upper Secondary School (Lykeio) or
- the 2nd grade of Vocational Upper Secondary School (EPAL), in a non-related specialty to the obtained EPAS qualification.
- the 3rd grade of Vocational Upper Secondary School (EPAL), in a specialty related to the obtained EPAS qualification.
