Description

The holder of an EPAS certificate of this specialty:
Knowledge:

1. Describes the main concepts, sizes and basic laws of electricity to the extent necessary to calculate, interpret and evaluate the various electrical quantities (voltage, current, resistance, power, AC frequency, etc.), in the field of his professional work.
2. Describes the working principle of electrical consumers used in ordinary electrical applications such as electric motors, transformers, rectifiers, inverters, devices converting power to heat, protection and control instrumentation.
3. Distinguishes, describes and selects from catalogues - where appropriate - the electrotechnical materials, the electrical devices and machinery used in low voltage electrical installations of buildings and industrial sites, in automation installations and weak currents or consist the usual electric consumers for serving houses, shops, offices and places of production (pipelines, cables, distribution channels and pipes, electrical panels, switches, hardware, automation and security systems, lighting fixtures, grounding and lightning protection devices, electric motors, transformers, electrical part of household appliances and air conditioners, fire detection and alarm devices, wiring for telephone service, computers, TV, intercom, etc.).
4. Identifies the key light technical figures and calculates the lights of a simple electric lighting installation for indoors based on specifications given.
5. Understands and updates the wiring diagrams in the field of his professional activities and issues sketches and simple electrical installation plans.
6. Knows, interprets and applies in his work, the regulations and quality standards that apply for the various categories of electrical installations.
7. Describes and distinguishes the scope of the rules regarding safety, health and environmental protection related to his professional activities.
Skills:
1. Applies in performing his work the applicable rules of safety, health and environmental protection.
2. Operates the basic electrical tools and instruments.
3. Performs measurements of electrical quantities and checks on electrical installations and interprets and evaluates their results.
4. Issues simple designs of electrical installations for buildings, central heating boilers, industrial sites, etc. based on specific standards and requirements (calculation of line profiles, selection of switchgear and protection equipment, electrical panel design, design of strong and weak current lines, allocation of lights, sockets, connectors, and electrical drains on ground plan, calculation of materials, parts and work required).
5. Manufactures complex electrical installations (lighting, motion, automation, structured cabling, other low voltage), following instructions, specifications and drawings given.
6. Applies in performing the work the applicable rules of safety, health and environmental protection.
7. Operates the basic electrical tools and instruments
8. Installs and checks the grounding and lightning protection circuit of the electrical installation.
9. Performs audits, maintains and replaces damaged materials and components in an electrical installation according to the applicable regulations and the relevant quality standards.
10. Installs, maintains and controls automation systems with relays and PLC for simple automation applications.
11. Installs, maintains, monitors and carries out simple repairs on-site (as long as is feasible) of various electric machines.
12. Checks and repairs usual electrical faults in the water heater, electric galley and other simple household appliances.
13. Uses the specified professional terminology established within the scope of his employment.
14. Reports verbally and prepares written reports to his Supervisors and to the official authorities about the planning, progress and results of operations.

Transitions

Access to EPAS is given to graduates of 1st grade of General Upper Secondary School (Lykeio) or Vocational Upper Secondary School (EPAL).
The holders of Ptychio EPAS have access to:
- the 2nd grade of General Upper Secondary School (Lykeio) or
- the 2nd grade of Vocational Upper Secondary School (EPAL), in a non-related specialty to the obtained EPAS qualification.
- the 3rd grade of Vocational Upper Secondary School (EPAL), in a specialty related to the obtained EPAS qualification.
