The holder of a Vocational Upper Secondary School degree of this specialty:
KNOWLEDGE

1. Describes the operation of main and auxiliary machinery of the ship, the relevant control systems, as well as the rescue and fire-fighting means of the ship.
SKILLS
1. Uses suitable tools for construction and repairs that usually take place on ships.
2. Uses hand tools and measuring equipment for the removal, maintenance, repair and replacement of machinery and equipment in the ship.
3. Performs and maintains a safe watch of the engine room.
4. Operates the main engine, the auxiliary machinery and the relevant control systems.
5. Operates the pumping systems, along with the relevant control systems.
6. Ensures compliance with the requirements for preventing sea pollution.
7. Maintains the ship's sea-worthiness.
8. Operates the rescue and fire-fighting means of the vessels.
COMPETENCES
1. Collaborates with other colleagues during the execution of his duties.
2. Works autonomously.

Holders of qualifications of this Type are entitled to obtain a professional license, along with the relevant rights, as provided by the pertinent legislation on the specific specialty.

Transitions

Access to programmes leading to such qualifications is available for graduates of compulsory education or graduates of the 1st class of General Upper Secondary School (they may enrol in the 2nd class of EPAL).
Holders of qualifications of this type are entitled to obtain, following examinations, an EPAL Certificate. With the acquisition of EPAL Certificate they also gain access to the Apprenticeship Class (Level 5).
