KNOWLEDGE
The undergraduate programme of the Department of Business Administration provides extensive, analytical, and comprehensive knowledge about the nature of business, the organisation, the management, and the operation thereof. The graduates of the Department have knowledge and understanding (a) of the organisations, (b) of the external environment where the organisations operate, and (c) of the methods by which they are organised and managed. Upon the successful completion of the programme of studies, the graduates are sufficiently trained and capable about the following: (a) sufficiently apply the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during their studies through the educational procedures of the programme, (b) organise and manage business units, and (c) create and operate their own business units.
Within this context, the students obtain knowledge about the economy and the markets, the customers, the financial management, the management of human resources, the management of technology and innovation, the IT systems and generally the ICTs, the business strategy, the role of businesses in society, etc.
SKILLS
Students develop and learn how to use the following skills:
-- CRITICAL THINKING, ANALYSIS, AND SYNTHESIS: Students develop the ability to analyse situations in businesses, in order to understand and interpret them, perceive the critical parameters and the success or threat factors, assess alternative actions based on evidence, compose data to develop new approaches and search for solutions, and take in with an exploratory and critical attitude new ideas and perceptions.
-- QUANTITATIVE SKILLS: Students can analyse data and find solutions in business problems, formulate and develop quantitative models, interpret data and solutions, make projections, understand, specify and analyse the results of actions.
-- RESOLUTION OF PROBLEMS AND TAKING OF DECISIONS: Students develop the ability of understanding, formulating, and resolving business problems, creating and evaluating alternative actions, and taking decisions with regard to a wide range of business situations.
-- COMMUNICATION: Students develop a successful communication ability with regard to the oral and written speech.
-- PROFESSIONALISM: Students understand the need of acting with consistency, professionalism, respect, honesty, and based on moral standards.

COMPETENCES: Within the context of the above, students develop and learn to use the following competences:
-- KNOWLEDGE APPLICATIONS: Students learn to apply the knowledge acquired in practice, mainly through practical exercises and in general through exercises with a practical content.
-- RESOLUTION OF PROBLEMS AND TAKING OF DECISIONS: Students learn the tools and develop the competence of understanding, formulating, and resolving business problems, as well as consider, develop, and evaluate alternative actions / choices.
-- USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY: Students know how to use ICTs as tools for the conduct of business operations and procedures, as means for the development of innovative approaches in the operation of businesses.
-- COMMUNICATION: Students develop an effective competence of communication with regard to the oral and written speech in order to support their views or showcase the results of their work.
-- TEAM WORK: Students show the competence of effective collaboration within the context of team work.
-- ABILITY TO CONDUCT RESEARCH: Students are capable of conducting research (theoretical works, dissertation), autonomously or as members of a team.

Further Information

The Department aims to the development and dissemination of knowledge and the theoretical and applied research in the science of Business Administration, along with the provision to students of the necessary theoretical and practical background which shall ensure their spherical training for their scientific and professional career.
Specifically, the purpose of the undergraduate programme is the preparation and education of employees in the cognitive subjects of Business Administration and Organisation, along with the applications thereof in the Private and Public Sector.
The main cognitive subjects of the programme include financial analysis, market study, customer relations, financial management, management of human resources, management of technology and innovation, IT systems and generally ICTs, business strategy, the role of businesses in society, etc. The curriculum includes various separate and specialised cognitive subjects (e.g. globalisation, entrepreneurship, innovation, etc.).

Relation To Employment

The degree on Business Administration is one of the degrees required for the practice of a financial profession, issued by the Chamber of Commerce. In addition, in accordance with Presidential Decree 514/89 (Government Gazette 218/issue Α'/5-10-89), the graduates of the Departments of Business Administration of the Schools of Management and Economics of the Technical Educational Institutions can work either as executives in businesses with various tasks, in the private or public sector, or in collaboration with other scientists, or on their own.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
