Learning outcomes: Knowledge, Skills, Competences

The subject of the Postgraduate Studies Programme is the scientifically-proven production and dissemination of advanced knowledge, of knowhow, of clinical tools, of methodologies, of techniques and research outcomes in the scientific field of Physical Therapy, with emphasis on prevention, improvement, and restoration of pathological conditions, congenital and acquired, as well as of trauma causing disorders in the skeletal, muscular, neural, respiratory, and cardiovascular system.

The thematic sections of the postgraduate studies programme refer to prevention, improvement and rehabilitation, while they are separated into three discreet general thematic areas based on the manifestation of disorders: in the musculoskeletal, in the neural, and in the cardiovascular system.

The programme objectives are the following:
- The promotion of knowledge and the development of research in the scientific fields of physical treatment relevant to physical therapy.
- The creation of quality physiotherapists to the benefit of society and public health.
- The deceleration of the outflow of Greek scientists abroad for postgraduate studies for physical therapy, to the benefit of society and Greek economy.

The purpose of the Postgraduate Studies Programme is for students to acquire specialized scientific knowledge and skills in order to:
- acquire the competence of evaluating and synthesizing using the existing knowledge on the specialized subject of the Programme;
- develop the necessary special skills in order to formulate research hypotheses, design and conduct research, as well as evaluate, analyse, and interpret research outcomes;
- acquire the necessary assets and special skills both for their professional and for the academic and research career under the competitive conditions formulated in the modern European environment and globally;
- acquire quality scientific training with the purpose of providing quality physiotherapy services to the benefit of the Greek economy and public health.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
