The subject of the Department:
The cognitive subject of the Physiotherapy Department refers to the evaluation, through physical therapy, of injuries, conditions, and dysfunctions, congenital and acquired, which affect the operation of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular system. In addition, it refers to the application of suitable scientific methods, techniques, and means for the prevention, treatment and restoration of the above pathological conditions.
Purposes and Objectives of the Programme:
The basic purpose of the programme is to provide suitable and comprehensive theoretical, practical, and clinical education, in order to allow graduates of the Department to make a scientifically informed choice and apply the methods, techniques, and media of physical therapy. The objective of the Department of Physiotherapy is the creation of responsible employees, capable of applying the specific scientific directions of the curriculum in the field of Public Health. To this end, emphasis is put on collaboration with educational and nursing foundations in Greece and abroad, for the exchange of information and knowledge, through the conduct of joint educational and research programmes.
Structure of studies:
The duration of studies in the Department of Physiotherapy is eight (8) semesters. During the seven (7) first semesters, the studies include theoretical teaching, laboratory and clinical exercises, coursework, and seminars. In the seventh semester, students are assigned with a subject for their dissertation. During the eight semester the preparation of the dissertation is continued, while conducting the six-month (26 weeks) practical training in the profession in Public Hospital Institutions.
Relation To Employment
Registration in the National Association of Physiotherapists and acquisition of professional license.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
