Master's Degree in "Applied Computational Structural Engineering". Department of Civil Engineering Educators. School of Pedagogical and Technological Education (ASPETE).

Description

Knowledge: This programme is focused firstly on modern computational methods for analysis and secondly on the design of the structural works, based on the New Greek Regulations and the Eurocodes.  The curriculum apart from theoretical training puts special emphasis on the practical training of students, through the preparation of practical works and projects, within the context of the various courses.

Skills: The Projects give an opportunity to apply the knowledge and use the knowhow in order to complete the tasks and resolve practical problems. These include mainly cognitive skills (with the use of logic, intuition, and creative thinking), and secondly practical skills (manual dexterity and use of methods, materials, tools, and instruments).

Competences: The students (engineers with a diploma or degree from Universities of positive direction) shall be thoroughly and scientifically trained in order to be capable of producing new knowledge in domestic and foreign research centres and university institutions.

Learning outcomes: The specialisation in the modern methods and techniques of interdisciplinary approach, collaboration, and research in the field of analysis and design of structural works to cover the increased needs of the Public and Private Sector, of the Organisations and Businesses of the wider Public Sector of the country, including other countries of the European Union, or outside of it, in the scientific fields of the Postgraduate Programme.

Further Information

The Postgraduate Programme is full-time and it is divided into three (3) semesters of studies.  In each of the first two semesters, six (6) compulsory courses are provided.  Each course includes 3 hours of theoretical and practical teaching and refers to five (5) ECTS credits.  During the 3rd semester, a postgraduate dissertation is issued, which amounts to thirty (30) ECTS credits.   In order to acquire the Postgraduate Diploma, ninety (90) credits are required.  The courses are taught in Greek.  Specifically, the curriculum of the Postgraduate Programme is as follows:

A' Semester - Courses (30 credits)
A1 Advanced mathematics for engineers
A2 Simulation and design of structures made of reinforced concrete
A3 Probabilistic Analysis and Analysis of Structure Reliability
A4 Advanced, Non-Linear Static and Dynamic Stability of Structures

Total ECTS Credits: 90

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
