Knowledge: the learners:
- Have increased specialized knowledge in the field of Archaeology and Culture for the Eastern Mediterranean, from Prehistoric times to the end of the Hellenistic Times, which include sufficient data from the latest scientific developments and serve as basis for original thinking, research, and occupational activity.
- Show critical understanding of the principles, theories, methodologies and practices of Archaeology, as well as of its interconnection with other cognitive fields, such as Numismatics, Ancient Greek Grammar, and New Technologies.
- They have heightened critical awareness of the evolutionary dynamics and the latest issues of Archaeology for the Eastern Mediterranean.
Skills: the learners:
- They apply, easily, the theories and methodologies of the cognitive field of Archaeology of Eastern Mediterranean in their research, studies, and work in a critical and creative way.
- They apply with originality the acquired knowledge to research, analysis and development of innovative solutions to complex, interdisciplinary and innovative issues regarding the Archaeology of Eastern Mediterranean.
- They are able to evaluate, interpret and promote modern scientific research and studies in the field of Archaeology of Eastern Mediterranean.
- They express deductively, with a scientifically documented method, solutions for the issues of Archaeology of Eastern Mediterranean and formulate valid judgements after considering all aspects.
- They substantiate their positions using specialized information and arguments before a specialized or general audience with clarity, adequacy and accuracy.
Competences: the learners:
- Continue to develop with autonomy their knowledge and their skills in Archaeology of Eastern Mediterranean at a high level.
- Apply professionally their specialized knowledge and skills and effectively address new, interdisciplinary issues.

- Contribute to the development of knowledge and practices in the academic and professional field of Archaeology.

Learning outcomes: following the completion of the educational procedure, the learners understand the academic archaeological research and are capable of applying their theoretical and practical knowledge on the archaeological field and on archaeological academic research.

Further Information

Postgraduate students of the programme acquire holistically knowledge about the East Mediterranean during the ancient eras, through all its facets, while at the same time being initiated to the research procedure and to the procedures of participatory research in the context of archaeological theory and on the basis of research methods, which are suggested in the field of antiquarian sciences, and specifically of archaeology. Within this context, postgraduate students participate in field research, in experiential investigations, and in practice training, putting into practice theories, techniques, strategies, and methodological approaches that mainly fall into the research subjects and interests of the Postgraduate Studies Programme. Upon completing the programme, the postgraduate students must have formulated the profile of a modern researcher.

Relation To Employment

The Master's Degree in "Archaeology of Eastern Mediterranean" has a bonus of 200 points in the relevant calls of the branch (Archaeologists with University Education).

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
