Knowledge:
1. on issues of political governance and exercise of power in the Mediterranean;
2. on issues of development, innovation, and entrepreneurship, exploitation of natural resources, population increase, unemployment, immigration;
3. on issues regarding the resolution of regional conflicts and threats (political Islam, dissemination of weapons, environmental problems);
4. on issues of Mediterranean policy for the EU and policies for the institutional and organizational treatment of the problem of Mediterranean safety.
Skills: the learners:
1. Understand the various research techniques and different documentation methods used by political scientists, financial scientists, and by persons involved with international studies (international relations, international law).
2. Understand the character of political governance in the Mediterranean and specifically the problems of political power in the Mediterranean South.
3. Understand modern economic theories and the problems for development in the Mediterranean region (bureaucracy, statism, unemployment, immigration, etc.).
4. Understand the problems related to security, the causes and the wider consequences thereof.
Competences: the learners:
1. apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies and reinforce them, thus contributing to any future preparation of a doctoral dissertation;
2. apply the quantitative and qualitative methods for data analysis, the technique for collecting them, and the methods for accessing mainly electronic databases;
3. critically approach scientific literature and theories concerning governance and security, while developing the necessary scientific methodology for the conduct of high level research.

Further Information

Postgraduate students of the programme acquire specialized research skills, cultivate critical and analytical thinking, and develop the scientific approach to the subjects negotiated. The purpose is to achieve the greatest possible engagement with issues of governance and safety in the Mediterranean, with emphasis on issues of financial development, combining the financial theories with their practical application, both for the North and the South of the Mediterranean, so that the graduates of the programme can acquire the assets required to allow them to enter the labour market and actively participate in the financial and social development of the country.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
