The Doctorate Studies Programme falls in the general context of studies of the Department and follows the same policy for the generation of knowledge and of teaching, as per the general objectives of the Department, which refer to the contribution to the study of the theoretical paradigms of sociology, the development of suitable analytical and composite tools for the sociological methods, for the support of experiential research, and active participation in the international scientific community. The doctoral studies fall into the specialised and advanced research related to the most current developments in the field of research for social sciences. The creation and operation of the Department's research laboratories, where the candidate doctors usually are registered, aim for specializing the general scientific knowledge and connecting it to the current developments in society.

Having high qualifications of this type, they may either be self-employed or they may work in key positions for state or private businesses and organisations.
