Description

The procedure for conducting a doctorate leads its holder to thorough and extensive knowledge of the dissertation's subject, as well as of the wider relevant scientific field, and to the development of the skill of dealing with wholeness a wide range of scientific problems.  The holders of a doctorate from the Department of Shipping and Business Services must have applied and proven their skills in terms of using logical and structured scientific thinking, their analytical competences, their methodological independence through the competence of selecting suitable methodology resulting to the development of innovative solutions for complex interdisciplinary problems and the ease of use of technical tools in support or dismissal of scientific hypotheses.  The successful conduct of a doctorate in the Department of Shipping and Business Services leads to the acquisition and application of knowledge, to the structuring of methodologies and tools for the original resolution of problems related to Shipping, Transports, and International Trade.  This procedure leads to the thorough engagement with and expansion of the existing theoretical background, by contributing with new knowledge at an international and national level.

Within the context of conducting a doctoral dissertation in the Department, candidate doctors can enrol in the institutionalized and available common European PhD program, where the foundations of the TRANSPORTNET network work together, with the purpose of promoting an area of excellence for the scientific fields of transports and shipping. The European PhD Programme is offered as an alternative, equal option to candidate doctors of the universities - members of the network. Besides the Aegean University, the following also participate:

The Doctorate Studies Programme includes the conduct of a doctoral dissertation through the conduct of research on the respective cognitive domain that matches the title of the dissertation and/or the successful completion of a number of courses as such is specified per case.  The minimum duration of the doctoral programme is three years.

Relation To Employment

Having high qualifications of this type, they may either be self-employed or they may work in key positions for state or private businesses and organisations.

Transitions

Access to this type is possible only for those who have obtained at least a level 7 qualification (unless it is provided for otherwise).
Holders of such type qualifications have access to programs of study of the same level.
