Purpose
The mission of the Department is to "advance and disseminate knowledge through research and teaching on the cognitive subject of Accounting and Finance, and the preparation of quality executives for the needs of businesses and organisations in the private and public sector.
Objectives
The objectives set by the Department are achieved through the Programme of Undergraduate Studies, which is constantly adjusted by following international standards of studies of similar foreign Departments. The Curriculum, the content of the courses, along with the method of teaching, are constantly improving, taking into consideration the developments of science, new technologies, and the needs of the labour market. In particular, the realisation of these objectives is achieved by the following:
(a) through the teaching of courses of general education, such as:
- Principles of Management, Principles of Marketing, Strategic Management, Financial Aspect of Entrepreneurship and Businesses.
- Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics
- Economics (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics)
- IT systems, E-commerce, Modelling of Procedures and Systems
- Corporate Law (Civil, Commercial Corporate, Labour)
(b) teaching of courses for deepening understanding on the cognitive domains of Accounting and Finance, such as:
- Financial Accounting;
- International Financial Reporting Standards;
- Administrative Accounting
- Corporate Accounting;
- Tax Accounting;
- Auditing and Internal Control;
- Advanced Accounting;
- Special subjects of Financial Accounting;
- Analysis and Evaluation of Financial Statements;

- Banking Accounting;
- International Banking Subjects;
- Practical Applications of Financial Investments;

(c) by teaching laboratory courses:

- Practical Applications in Financial Administration;
- Management of Corporate Risks and Techniques for Preventing and Handling Risks
(d) through the development and advancement of research on issues affecting businesses and organisations.
Teaching of the above courses contributes to the development of critical thinking and competence for students with regard to the analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of strategic and administrative issues faced by profitable or non-profitable organisations in the modern, complex external (and internal) environment. In addition, it supports the scientific / creating thinking of students with regard to the daily changes taking place in the global map of businesses and organisations, aiming to strengthen their personal judgement and deal with the challenges experienced in the competitive "field" and "location" where they live and are active both professionally and personally, and specifically in the field of accounting and financial science.
The graduates of the Department of Accounting and Finance, having acquired specialized knowledge on the fields of accounting, auditing, tax accounting, and finance, are prepared to work in the private and public sector.
The signs received from the labour market are encouraging, with regard to the employment of our students and the satisfaction of their employers. For instance, our graduates work in the Bank of Greece, in Banks, in the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, in agencies of every Ministry, and especially of the Ministry for the Economy (e.g. Tax Offices), in Auditing Firms, in Accounting Offices, as freelancers, etc. At the same time, our graduates are accepted in foreign and domestic Universities for postgraduate and then doctoral studies, thus evidencing the high level of knowledge acquired by our undergraduate programme of studies.

Relevant licenses: Practice License for Certified Auditor - Accountant (Law 3693/08, as applied), Member of the Greek Chamber of Economy (Law 2515/97, as applies), Practice License for Accountant - Tax Technician (L. 2515/97, Presidential Decree 340/98 and Law 4152/13, as applied), Accountant in State Organisations (P.D. 50/01, as applies), Accountant - Educator of Secondary Education (L. 3194/03, as applies), Stockbroker (L. 3606/07, as applies).
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
