KNOWLEDGE: The graduates of the Postgraduate Studies Programme on Accounting and Finance:
- have increased specialized knowledge about the cognitive fields treated, i.e. Accounting and Finance, in comparison to the graduates of the undergraduate programme of studies. This Postgraduate Studies Programme includes sufficient data from the latest scientific developments and comprises the basis for original thinking, research and professional activity.
- They show critical understanding of the principles, theories, methodologies and practices for the specific fields of Accounting and Finance, along with the interconnections thereof with other cognitive domains.
- They are distinguished for the increased critical perception of the evolutionary dynamics and of the latest subjects of the cognitive domains of Accounting and Finance.

SKILLS: The graduates of the Postgraduate Studies Programme in Accounting and Finance are capable of:
- applying, easily, the theories and methodologies of their field knowledge in their research, studies and work, in a critical and creative way.
- applying with originality the acquired knowledge in research, analysis and development of innovative solutions to complex, interdisciplinary and innovative issues.
- evaluating, interpreting, and advancing modern scientific research and studies relevant to their cognitive domain.
- articulating in a scientifically documented way, solutions to complex and new issues and make valid judgements taking into account the social, economic, cultural and ethical dimensions.
- substantiating their positions using specialized information and arguments before a specialized or general audience with clarity, adequacy and accuracy.

COMPETENCES: The graduates of the Postgraduate Studies Programme in Accounting and Finance are capable of:
- continuing developing with autonomy their knowledge and skills at a high level.
- applying with professionalism their specialized knowledge and skills and effectively address new, interdisciplinary or unforeseen issues.
- solving problems and taking strategic decisions based on deductive thinking.
- contributing to the development of knowledge and practices in professional and business field and have operational capability in crisis management.
- taking responsibility autonomously for education/training and managing a team and assessing its performance.

Further Information

The purpose of the Postgraduate Studies Programme is the specialisation of the graduates of domestic or foreign Departments, in order to be able to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the wider cognitive subjects of Accounting and Finance, creating executives who shall be capable of: (a) finding employment in the field of businesses, business consultants, or public administration, (b) promoting the development of research and its applications in practice, in the two domains.

Objectives: The objectives set by the Department are achieved through the Programme of Undergraduate Studies, which is constantly adjusted by following international standards of studies of similar foreign Postgraduate Studies Programmes. The Postgraduate Studies Programme, the content of the courses, along with the method of teaching, are constantly improving, taking into consideration the developments of science, new technologies, and the needs of the labour market.
The Postgraduate Studies Programme in "Accounting and Finance" lasts for 12 months (90 ECTS units). It comprises of two semesters of studies; during the summer months, the postgraduate students complete their dissertation. The courses are divided into two sections: "compulsory" and "elective". During the first academic semester (winter), the student is obliged to attend and be successfully examined in four (4) compulsory courses and in one (1) elective. During the second academic semester (spring), the student is obliged to attend and be successfully examined in five (5) courses of the direction, i.e. in three (3) compulsory courses and in two (2) elective courses. Upon the expiration of the courses, during the summer months, the student is obliged to conduct his/her dissertation.

Relation To Employment

The purpose of the Postgraduate Studies Programme of the Department of Accounting and Finance is the specialisation of the graduates of domestic or foreign Departments, in order to be able to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the wider cognitive subjects of Accounting and Finance, creating executives who shall be capable of: a) becoming professionally active in the field of businesses, as certified auditors, internal auditors, accountants - tax technicians, business consultants, senior executives of public administration, stockbrokers, b) advance the development of research and of applications in the cognitive subjects of Accounting and Finance.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
