KNOWLEDGE: The graduates of the Postgraduate Studies Programme on Applied Accounting and Auditing:
- have increased specialized knowledge about the cognitive fields treated, i.e. Accounting and Auditing, in comparison to the graduates of the undergraduate programme of studies. On the one hand, this Programme contains sufficient data from the latest scientific development and constitutes the basis for original thinking, research, and professional activity, while combining increased professional training for participants on the other.
- show critical understanding of the principles, theories, methodologies and practices for the specific fields of Accounting and Auditing, along with the interconnections thereof with other cognitive domains.
- are distinguished for the increased critical perception of the evolutionary dynamics and of the latest subjects of the cognitive domains of Accounting and Auditing.

SKILLS: The graduates of the Postgraduate Studies Programme in Applied Accounting and Auditing are capable of:
- applying, easily, the theories and methodologies of their field knowledge in their research, studies and work, in a critical and creative way.
- applying with originality the acquired knowledge in research, analysis and development of innovative solutions to complex, interdisciplinary, and professional issues.
- evaluating, interpreting, and advancing modern scientific research and studies relevant to their professional cognitive domain.
- articulating in a scientifically documented way, solutions to complex and new issues and suggest professional solutions, taking into account the social, economic, cultural and ethical dimensions.
- substantiating their positions using specialized information and arguments before a specialized or general audience with clarity, adequacy and accuracy.

COMPETENCES: The graduates of the Postgraduate Studies Programme in Applied Accounting and Auditing are capable of:
- continuing developing their knowledge and skills at a high professional level.
- applying with professionalism their specialized knowledge and skills and effectively address new or unforeseen issues in the workplace.
- solving problems resulting in the workplace and taking strategic decisions based on deductive thinking.
- contributing to the development of knowledge and practices in professional and business field where they are active and have operational capability in crisis management.
- taking responsibility autonomously for education/training and managing a working group and assessing its performance.

Further Information

The purpose of the Programme is the specialisation of the graduates of relevant domestic or foreign Departments, in order to be able to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the wider cognitive subjects of Accounting and Auditing, and create executives who shall be capable of: (a) finding or maintaining employment in the field of businesses, business consultants, or public administration, (b) working as certified auditors or internal auditors, (c) promoting the development of research and its applications in the two cognitive domains.

Objectives: The objectives set by the Department are achieved through the Programme of Undergraduate Studies, which is constantly adjusted by following international standards of studies of similar foreign Postgraduate Studies Programmes. The Postgraduate Studies Programme, the content of the courses, along with the method of teaching, are constantly improving, taking into consideration the developments of science, new information technologies, and the current needs of the labour market. At the same time, the PSP offers graduates the following: (a) the option of becoming certified by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants - ACCA, (b) the collaboration with the Institute for the Education of the Body of Certified Auditors - Accountants (IESOEL) offering exemption in eight of the sections examined by IESOEL, (c) collaboration with the Institute of Internal Controls (IIC) offering graduates the professional certification of "Certified Internal Controls Auditor-CICA" by IIC, thus creating the conditions for their employment in the field of internal control.

The Postgraduate Studies Programme on "Applied Accounting and Auditing" takes twenty-four months. The courses of the programme begin in the winter semester of the academic year and last for three academic semesters. Each academic semester includes thirteen (13) complete weeks. The coursework, along with the curriculum, including the examinations taken by students, have been designed in accordance with the clauses of law 3693/08 (as applied). During the first academic semester (winter) the student is obliged to attend and be successfully examined in five (5) courses. During the second academic semester (spring) the student is obliged to attend and be successfully examined in five (5) courses. During the third academic semester (winter) the student is obliged to attend and be successfully examined in five (5) courses. Upon the expiration of the courses, during the next six months (spring), the student is obliged to conduct his/her dissertation.

Relation To Employment

The purpose of this Postgraduate Studies Programme of the Department of Accounting and Finance is the specialisation of the graduates of domestic or foreign Departments, in order to be able to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the wider cognitive subjects of Accounting and Auditing, creating executives who shall be capable of: a) continue being professionally active in the field of businesses, b) work as certified auditors, internal auditors, accountants - tax technicians, business consultants, senior executives of public administration, stockbrokers, c) advance the development of research and of applications in the cognitive subjects of Accounting and Finance.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
