Description

The Programme provides critical approaches to culture and follows historic transformations over time, aiming to provide knowledge about the far neighbours of Greece with regard to the institutions and social organization, and mainly the actions, the memories, and the experiences of individuals in their everyday life.  The programme aims to establish an academic paradigm of extroversion on issues of teaching and research for the regions of East Europe, of the Balkans, and of the Mediterranean.  This includes networking - collaborations - exchanges with Universities of the Central and Southeast Europe: Graz (Austria), Cluj (Romania), Novi Sad (Serbia), Sofia (Bulgaria), Zagreb (Croatia), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Regensburg (Germany). The main objective of the Postgraduate Studies Programme is the following:  Provide opportunity for specialisation on the studies of the regions in Southeast and East Europe in terms of History, Anthropology, and culture studies (art, literature, management of cultural inheritance).  It promotes the importance of extroversion for the conduct of cultural criticism inside and outside the Greek borders, with the purpose of cultivating tolerance for difference.  It promotes the specialisation on the sciences of History and Social Anthropology, with a central reference to the studies on the East and Southeast Europe, preparing students interested in furthering their studies to acquire a doctorate.  It promotes further learning and the acquisition of skills addressed to future and/or already working a) executives of international organisations and NGOs, b) managerial executives of the public or private sector, c) executives of Social Cooperative Businesses active in the fields of education, tourism, and management of cultural products (tangible and intangible).

Further Information

The holders of the Postgraduate Titles of the Department can conduct a Doctorate in the Department for Balkan, Slavic and Eastern Studies, as well as in other Departments / Schools of Higher Education with a relevant subject in Greece and/or abroad.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
