The Accounting Department was established based on law 1404/1983 about the "Structure and Operation of Technological Educational Institutions". Based on the above legislation, as amended and applied (law 2916/2001, 3549/2007), the Department belongs to the Technological Field of Higher Education.
The curriculum of the Department of Accounting of Patras TEI covers the subject of the Science of Accounting in the level of Higher Technological Education and its applications in the private and public sector. At the same time, the curriculum offers a high level of education and knowledge in subjects related directly with the application of modern Accounting, such as IT systems, the economy, law, and mathematics / statistics.
The main pursuit and mission of the Department is to provide students both with theoretical and applied knowledge, in order to cope with the needs of the labour market, the requirements of the professionals providing Accounting, Tax and general financial services, and ensure the conditions for their access to postgraduate studies.
Upon completing their studies, the graduates of the Department are awarded with the title of "Certified Accountant" and have the all necessary scientific knowledge and skills to work in every sector of the Department's subject, either as an executive in businesses, organisations, and services of the private and public sector, or as self-employed.
Relation To Employment
The Degree gives access to Postgraduate Studies, as per the Greek law. The Degree entitled its holder to work as an Accountant, as per the Greek law and specifically Presidential Decree 349/1989, Government Gazette 158A/1989.
In particular, the graduates of the Department of Accounting are engaged with accounting issues in the private and public sector.
Specifically, the work in areas related to issues such as:
- Keeping and updating of accounting books, which require the scientific analysis of the financial transactions.
- Keeping of accounting books, where the assets of the financial units are periodically kept.
- Preparation of statements or other documents, which include an analysis and accounting formulation of financial transactions connected to accounting books, hand-written or digital.
- Keeping and issuing of data used by the accounting department as elements of first registration, such as invoices.
- Updating of accounting cards.
- Registration of assets.
- Keeping of books and figures for the price list and the warehouse.
- Payroll
- Keeping of various books and figures required by the provisions of the applicable law.
- Guidance and monitoring of the application of the entire accounting system of the financial units.
- Direction and following of works in departments relevant to accounting.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
